Default Anyone seen a trans mount bushing like this?

I have know the bushing always looked funny, but i finally pulled it. I think someone poured some urethane or rubber in it. It was a bitch to pull out the chucks. It did have the factory urethane side pieces too. Im so happy im slowly replacing the getto on this car.

Yea,.... that was an old "trick" used to repair a failing mount back when you had to buy the complete trans nose-cone to get a new mount.

Finally the mount was available separately, but some continued to use the "hack"..

I've done that to a brand new engine mount to stiffen it up.

I did something similar to my new engine mounts, made them stiffer at a fraction of the cost of semi solids.

Well i guess its a budget racing trick, who knew?

Anyways mine got a new mount and yellow powerflex inserts. They were cheap enough.

There's a shade-tree mechanic.

Thumbs up

Powerflex actually sell a polyurethane insert that is a tight fit into the existing bush to make it far stiffer and give you a more acurate gear change and less twist on the engine/transmission unit

There are about a half dozen reports about them if u search the 996 forum. No first hand knowledge but the nvh is high and not good for street driving.

I used the black inserts for about two years. Personally I didn't mind it all that much, but it is quite a bit harsher (NVH) than the yellow insert I'm using now. In my case my original trans mount bushing that I was using the black insert with had been totally collapsed, so that might have contributed to some of the harshness. At times, I'd say the NVH could almost be described as kind of cool (very race car like experience albeit not as loud), but making/answering phone calls or listening to music was fairly futile...

i installed them into a brand new mount. The inserts just slide in with no effort. It will take as long as removing the mount to get access. On my lift about 20min, on the ground maybe an hour?

I have the yellows, I installed them when replaced the clutch, so can't comment how hard it would be with everything tied up in the car, but it shouldn't be hard. Also replaced the engine mounts at the same time, the complete setup made the car much more responsive and predictive in the corners.

I have the black - they perform absolutely brilliantly along with a numeric racing shifter and cables its the best setup you can get IMO. No play "bolt rifle action" like is how I have seen it explained and agree with it.

However the NHV is bad... really bad.

When I had my car serviced the tech noted "very noisy drive train" you can hear so much the gearbox literally sounds broken.
