So i purchased this 996 Mk1 'Cable' GT3 Throttle body from Ebay, the guy said it would fit my 1998 3.4 'Cable' C2 996, i have since taken it to my garage and they are saying they can not get it to line up.

We knew we might have some issues getting it lined up to the standard airbox as the other guys said he had a K&N induction kit installed, but the assumption was it would line up with the airmass etc.

Some of the plugs and bits are on the wrong side which we extended to fit. Has anyone ever got this fitted? is it even possible? The original seller is ghosting me








I have attached photos of the throttle body, below. Which essentially has a built in plennum?

Car is in the garage are we doing something stupid? or have i been dumb and purchased a part that will never fit.

Not to add insult to injury, but it looks like "you been had"... Hopefully you used Paypal and you have some recourse. If not, at the very least you seem to have a good attitude - if all else fails, you can probably turn it around again on Ebay (giving full disclosure of course!) Good Luck

Be a nice upgrade if you could get it to fit but unfortunately it's been proved that these cars don't suffer from inadequate induction , standard induction can usually cope with extra flow from larger cylinders etc actually that's the only way to get any decent extra power , as they say there's no substitute for cubic inches!!

Can I just say there is no way that TB and plenum is going to line up on a 98/99. I've had my TB off several times and it looks nothing like that. Take your garage advice. Not going to work.
And the seller had no idea what they were doing, or talking about, other then to sell something and get rid of it and pocket the cash.

What's the part number in it? I see an 986 cast in it. That's normally a Boxter.

Looks as though it actually would mount "upside down" as compared to a regular 98/99 C2 with the cable coming in the left side instead of the right side.

If the big rubber boots to the plenum is the same size, looks like it could be made fit but probably not to the Factory air box, would need to an aftermarket air box/ intake. along with other mods for IAC , AOS and TPS.

I'll give ya $50 bucks?

Thank you all and to @40th steve this is the actual part i purchased! This guy in that forum sold it to a guy in latvia who has now sold it to me! Which is worrying as neither of them kept it on their cars for long! haha Managed to speak to the original guy and as in the 911 forum we are going to try and mount it @180degrees.

The original Guy who did the work, said it was better with it on but hinted he thought it needed a remap of a GT3 MAF to make the most of it. I was planning on a remap anyway but i guess a little concerned overall that both these guys fitted and removed within a small amount of time that this could still be a complete waste of money.
I could have got the IPD plennum for the same money i paid for this part, but i guess more air could or should be better than the IPD part.

I now need to solve the airbox situation as i will require a long piece of silicon or fit the induction kit. I would prefer the car stay looking original . I will update once this is on and tested.

What makes you think you would have needed a remap anyways?

Be interesting to see how your "experiment" works out. Whatever made you think that the stock airbox, Throttle Body and intake are restrictive in any way? Mine is completely stock and will pull all the way to 7,000 RPM without a hiccup. I definitely have all the power I would ever need. Porsche engineers spent millions of $ and countless hours on design and testing. Most of the time I've heard in other threads the owner attempts to do this, and then almost immediately go back to a stock setup. Stressing your already highly strung engine with a remap is also a fail. There....that's my 2 cents

So the install was completed today successfully. We managed for now just to mate it to the standard airbox with a performance filter. I have on order the resonator cap and new silicon pipe to improve things.
In terms of my immediate reaction, i drove from Essex to East London so a 35min trip only so far. Without doubt she sounds more throaty and there is a clear improvement in responsiveness in lower gears.

In summary:
1. More responsive
2. Dont appear to have lost any torque perhaps improved 'Appears to be pulling harder than before' 'Subjective opinion at this point'
3. More aggressive sound
4. She feels like shes Opened up more as the revs climb, and she appears to climb much faster.

For now, i would say pretty happy, lets hope she remains reliable with this setup, other parts to come next week.

@DBJoe996 in agreement however hope you are wrong

I will take her out for another little drive later. Then will update you all once we Remap & install the updated silicon. Trying to avoid Induction kit.

You are associating more sound to more power. Same thing with the responsiveness. It's a common human reaction.

@Imo000 You may well be right, however your point is no more proven than i have proved she is benefiting from the mod

I Will dyno once i have finished. And put the original TB back at some point to directly compare i want actual figures however the feel/sensation of the drive does hold some merit.

Lets see, a fun little experiment at the very least.

The guy that recently sold it is on Facebook and he explained it gave him bad fuel trim issues. That is why he removed it.
