Default Knocking noise from front

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rocw...ature=youtu.be

I get a strange knocking from the front of the car when warmed up. It is not coming from the engine but seems to be behind the passenger front fender. Putting my ear to top of the fender or right at the bottom corner of the wind shield its a more of a ticking but inside the cabin it gets amplified and sounds like a knock. Weather hasn't been the best lately so I haven't had a chance to dig further. Not sure if its happening when the radiator fans are on or not, hopefully determine that this weekend. Happens while at a stand still and driving.

Sounds like something is blocking the pass-side fan, or maybe a bushing in the fan motor is done. Should be trivial to determine if it's the fan by spinning it manually or temporarily bypassing the fan relay.

To bypass would I just unclip the electrical connection to the fan and supply 12 volts off the battery?

Just start the car and turn on the AC. The low speed fans are always on with the AC on. Then go around the car to the front passenger side and listen.

Some folks have heard knocking noise in back by the engine caused by a water hose, so it’s possible a water hose could be loose. I would rule out the HVAC blower motor and AC compressor by turning those off.

Make sure it’s not the clutch pedal - some folks have kicking/ticking from the pedal itself. That’s the other side of the car, so probably not it.

Oh yeah, and also check the CD changer if that’s still installed in the frunk.

Did this test, its not the fans making the noise. However I did discover the drivers side fan is not running, add that to the list. Managed to get a recording of the ticking from outside the car (no fans running). Audio picked up better than I though and it sounds louder in vid than it actually is. Driving me nuts as there's no consistency to it, comes and goes.

Behind the passenger side wheel liner and fender is the carbon canister/evap system. It has a couple of valves, and it could be one of those cycling very quickly. How about remove the plastic cover from the passenger side of the battery tray and see if you can locate something ticking? See carbon canister and valves here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=201-20
How old is your gas cap? Check the O-ring on the gas cap. The only other thing I can think of is something is stuck in the HVAC system fan. I had a leaf stuck in one of my cars and the sound drove me crazy. Pull out the fan, removed leaf and all was well again. Given that car had a pollen filter, I have no idea how that leaf got in there.

Will look into these next. I did remove the plastic cover on the passenger side on sunday after washing the car and checked for anything that seemed loose. Car was not running at that time though. Thanks for the ideas!

As improbable and crazy as it may sound, if it is a random irregular noise it could actually be a worn out front drop link (that connects to the sway bar). The subtle movement of the suspension at idle can produce a noise similar to what you are describing in that part. GLWS
