To clarify, this is because the gt3 air intake is in the wrong location. The aerokit ii version of the same decklid has the air intake aligned for the carerra air intake.

They are a true bolt on, but yes you have to rework the duct work, or use aftermarket cold air intake and then it is easier to make fit.
I used a evoms cold air intake and it works great with this deck lid with only minor work.

You need to notch the one side to miss the fan with the Evoms CAI, I could of done a better job but at the time it worked.

it seems like a pretty easy fix...but why not just remove the snorkel.

I love the look and shape of the 996 wingless, unless it's on the track what good is a wing?
Performance wise, don't you have to compensate up front if you mess with the rear?

Well it still helps draw fresh air in even with the fan there. Even though it is getting more from the deck lid opening into the airbox.

I prefer it as well. None of these are bad but there is something classic about the shape of the car without the spoilers.

I went back and forth (and still do). I bought a used OEM Carrera wing and decklid that I can swap back and forth with the original decklid very easily. It's just four bolts and the wiring harness plug.

On a separate question: with the big wings that mount on the deck lid how do those tiny little hood struts hold up all that extra weight when open?

I like both looks.
That’s why I’d like another 996, so I can have both.
I could easily switch between my taco and my original automagic spoiler.
But I just stick with the taco.
I need a roller to find me so I can switch daily.

The factory original deck & spoiler is steel.
The Taco is all fiberglass.
The taco might weigh a little more(I haven’t weighed mine) but not so much that good struts don’t easily hold it up.

I think the 996 looks better with some aero. After all, since it's the ugliest 911 version, it needs something.

(kidding. I actually like its looks)
