Default Need new cats.....kinda quick

So i have a HPDE next weekend. My cat decided it wants to rattle like a rod knock yesterday. Was just gonna order Fabspeed to match the rest of my intake and exhaust but my finger won't let me press the order button....that price is nuts. Any ideas on quality xpipe cats that i could have to florida for a reasonable price by next thursday?

I have the Fabspeed X-pipe. It was years ago when I installed them but I don't remember it taking more than a few days to get to me. Love them and they sound great.

Let me know if interested and I can send you a Youtube link with some sound clips.

I love Fabspeed stuff. I have their Carbon Competition Intake and Maxflow Mufflers. I just dont care for the Porsche Tax applied to their x pipe cats. $2500.00 is a little (more like alot) excessive in my opinion.

Yeah I know the feeling. I think they offered me a discount when I reached out and told them I was a Rennlister. But it still was expensive...Although quite a bargain from the stock cats from Porsche!

Since the stock cats are toast, have you considered just replacing just the cats with 200-cell ones...something like THIS? A decent muffler shop should be able to do it for you for a relatively nominal fee. You can get that done by the weekend!

No. As a tech i have seen way too many times when these were installed like crap, don't meet factory specs and set engine lights, or just come apart. I would rather spend the money on a better product. Just don't want to spend stupid Porsche Tax. So far i will most likely order the top gear x pipe with 200 cell cats and if it doesn't come on time i will pull the cat and gut it for now.

Same thing happened to me. I went on a mountain run and when I got to my destination I heard a knock/rattle. I was pretty much crapping my pants, until I realized it went away under throttle and that it was actually the cat that was rattling. Relief... until I found out the stock cats are like $1500 a pop for a used part.. lol. So I went ahead pulled the trigger on the top gear UK 200 cells with larger diameter piping and I haven't looked back. These things are AWESOME, great quality and have turned on the soundtrack for the engine for sure.

Just pull the cats and go straight pipe for the track day. Order the Top Gear cats and be completely satisfied when they get there. I was told that track days, mountain runs etc the cats can overheat and a failing cat that maybe doesn't rattle will just go when that happens.

Good luck and you won't be disappointed with the top gears if you go that route.

Let us know what you think once installed. I'm thinking I will replace my x-pipe cat bypass with the TopGear 200 cell cats.

Will do!

A little nervous about installing the headers. A little bit of searching shows almost everyone snaps all the bolts off into the block. Sounds like a PIA

I snapped one head bolt (first one i tried to loosen). Luckily it's part of a full rebuild so engine is out and heads are being redone anyway. After breaking the first one with a hand wrench. i repeatedly soaked the other bolts with pb blaster and used a cordless impact wrench on all the others. The took a few seconds of "hammering" without moving and then they all spun right out.

I will be buying the topgear 200 cells as part of my reassembly. Ditto on the feedback once installed, particularly on the headers (lot's of people are happy with their cats). i wasn't planning to replace headers but.... Haven't contacted topgear but they don't give much info on their webiste on what they have done with their design that is supposed to give iimproved air flow. Seems like most things that headers get mixed reviews for cost vs. improvement. My impression is our stock headers are pretty good.
