unused phone wire for power tap? 99C4
Greetings!
I hope to do the garage door hack referenced on a recent thread. In the youtube comments a person noted that this hack can be hard wired to avoid having to change battery on the opener remote.
I know I saw reference here to an unused phone harness somewhere that can be tapped for power, but I cant seem to find it. Does anyone recall this, and perhaps know where it is/how to access?
Of lesser importance, anyone try this hack hard wired to an at home module?
Thanks in advance,
MajicB

It's under the front of the center console. Remove the carpeted side pieces and you should be able to find it.

Years ago I put one of these in my car. At the time they had a model specifically for cars but now they seem to focus on motorcycle. I think they will work on any 12v system. Easy to install, no special power supply or button, you just flash you headlights twice. Works great.

I installed the same thing (flash to open) in my 986, and it never worked worth a gosh darn. Finally removed it and tossed it.
If I was inclined to try again, I'd buy a HomeLink visor out of some junked vehicle and graft it onto the 996's visor...

Brown = ground
yellow = phone mute
the others are switched and unswitched +12V
search EBay for a Homelink. If you have chamberlain or Liftmaster, get 2012 or newer HomeLink.

Excellent, thanks all.
Flash to open looks interesting, but I like the idea of a Porsche lighted switch in one of the blanks (and actually ordered one). I think I saw Homelinks on Ebay for less than 20 but have to make sure they are correct one. i have a Liftmaster circa 2006.
