Porsche uses two weight groups for pistons in the 3.4, they have a (+) group 544g-547g and a (-) group 547g-550g, the +or- is stamped into the piston top for indication or the weight group and are weight matched to within 3 grams. Usually machine shops who balance pistons match within 1 gram or .5 gram. and normally remove material from non-critical areas, but with a piston that is already as light as possible, there are not many non-critical areas, they usually remove material from around the pin boss edge as shown in the red circle, the green circle shown I think is the area we see in the borescope cam and may be just the clearance machining for the pin bore.

Not much to report on the engine. I did have to move it out of the way today.
Fortunately I have a few days ahead to get things done. One was fixing the driver's side window in my wife's V70R. Not a difficult job when you see how to do it from the YouTube videos. Will install some new speakers in Sparky tomorrow, or the next day. What's really been taking my time, is the installation of a furnace for my shop. Who knew you had to add so much more, once you get the furnace out of the box?
Ran about 45' of black pipe from the west end of the building to a point close to the eventual mounting place. Did a trial mount of the fire break for the vent tube. Suspended six threaded rods to hang the thing. Still need to convert the gas metering to LPG, wire up 120v, wire and mount the thermostat, hang the furnace, finish the fuel line, complete the venting and then finally get a propane tank delivered and hooked up. Nothing to it...

Hey Bill - I saw that yesterday. It looks to me as though it's a subscription sort of deal. My internet data plan is not the greatest. If it were available on DVD, I would be more likely to jump on it. I can assure you - I will need all the help I can get, when I start putting things back together. And there is no better help than Jake and his team.

I'll wager 15 quatloos that he is untrainable.
Sorry I couldn't resist, way too much Star Trek as a kid (and adult).
Really though, with your skills, plus the amount of help and knowledge on this forum it should be a fairly straight forward job.
