Very sorry to read about your engine issue. Does sound like the AOS could be the culprit. Esp if it wasn't replaced wien you put in the replacement engine, no idea how old it might be?
Pelican Parts has a nice write-up on removing the AOS without dropping the engine.

Just to confirm, you tried all these rotations without the belt connected, right?

Bill, you mentioned in an earlier post that you heard this sound at 3000 rpm. That's above the typical engine speed where high vacuum would be active. So that might not be the same as air being sucked by the RMS.
Drop the oil filter, as RK suggests. Get a really good look. Then decide next steps.

Best advice so far.

But anytime I say "we're pulling for you", or "we're with you"; I have to add the last part. Look up Red Green if you're not familiar with it.

Are you referring to a rebuild of my old motor?

Well, I know everyone is saying to pull the filter, but when was the last time a major engine failure sounded like a screeching belt? Maybe that smoke you thought you saw didn’t come out the tailpipe, but from the belt? Perhaps you have a stuck pulley or accessory that lit up the belt. Maybe a water pump failed. And no, if the water pump failed, your temps might appears fine, as the temp sensor would have been able to detect the increase in temp if that happened.
