Great suggestion. In fact in October I drove from Baltimore to Cincinnatti to pick up a hardtop. And I learned that a 2003 hardtop won't fit on a 2000 until you put a $1200 retrofix on it. Had a great trip though. Vail in the winter- nah.

Greyhound. Shipped my Boxster soft top that way when I replaced it with a hard top. Wrap some carpet scraps around it, tape a bunch of cardboard around it, and good to go.

search online for a while. When i purchased my 996 it had the hardtop "delete" option. Not only did that mean it didnt come with the top but also didnt have any mounting harware. I searched ebay and after about a month or 2 i found a salvage yard that specialized in porsches that was selling all the hardware for the car and rhe top. They wanted 300. I offered 100 and the accepted it.

+1 for uShip

Seller put pool noodles along the edges to protect corners then wrapped with thick blankets. Arrived undamaged & well protected.
