Man, that really sucks. It's rock solid on android (my phone at least) and a really well-built app.

All the data comes straight from the DME over OBDII protocol. I don't care which bluetooth adapter/app/OS you use, use the one you are most familiar with or have on hand. As long as the MAF, temps, altitude, ect. can be retrieved.

You can even use Durametric over the Porsche protocol, but it is a LOT more cumbersome with the cable/laptop and all.

When I go on long trips or just spirited drives and "hooligan runs" with my Porsche buddys, I have my phone mounted and Torque app running for additional gauges and info I can easily flip through to keeps tabs on everything..I usually monitor fuel trims, 02 sensors, MAF, IAT, and coolant temp since the dash gauge is so inaccurate, and I have a separate oil temp gauge.

No, you can't get oil temps through OBDII protocol, it can only be gotten through Porsche specific protocol on 996,(ie Durametric/Piwis). That's why I have a separate oil temp digital gauge..

Ok, I got my OBD Fusion system issues sorted out, thanks to super support from their tech service dept. I emailed them my questions about 3:00 pm SUNDAY and had their response before 9:00pm SUNDAY NIGHT. I can highly the app to anyone wanting to use an iOS device.

Now on to the hard data:
car:1999 C2 3.4 coupe
miles: 3000 on rebuilt engine all stock intake, exhaust, cats, mufflers
max rpm: 6930
max MAF: 197.1 g/s
ambient temp: 45*F
barometric pressure: 30.18 in hg
altitude: 2248 ft

Thanks for the info Porschetech3 I've got an OBDII device and piwis but prefer to use the OBDII device as it's portable.

So I'm guessing I just fire up torque pro so a few pulls when the engine is warm and it will record Max MAF?

Should be interesting to see!

If the Torque app works like Dash Command, you pick which data items you want to log from a menu.

Yea, on Torque just fire up the app, (connected to OBDII bluetooth), select gauge type (half dial (needle)) (has min/max), then PID( MAF) do a couple pulls in 2nd or 3rd to capture Max value..

What exactly are you trying to with all this data?

The Data should speak for itself . Like mentioned earlier, if enough data is collected, some "interesting trends" is expected to emerge.

With all the sensors and computer, you basically have a rolling "engine laboratory" at your fingertips. I can't think of any other factor you would want for evaluating engine performance.

Of coarse each data set will need a correction factor back to SAE standards of (sea level,60F) similar to what NHRA uses for World Records at different tracks in different parts of the country, or like Dyno companies use to set-up dyno's at different parts of the country to be able to compare readings.

OH I have some idea, if I thought all our engines (after correction for altitude, temp) would have the same power potential even with different exhaust, cats, mufflers, intakes, filters, mileage ect, then I would think it would be pointless.

Wow. I know what this is. Haven't heard it spoken out loud since I was a kid in the 80's though. lol
