the only reason i took offense to it was because i do have gay friends (not gay myself, at least my wife says so
). imagine how they would feel after that remark. there's no way in hell my gay friends would think they were uncool 
i knew what you meant by it and you know how it was really derived. used it all the time when i was a kid, until i became enlightened
growing up on the east coast will do that to you, HA!
i guess in the bay area "we are family.." ok, that was a bad one.
