Default Cabriolet Top Problems - Only Clamshell Opens, Side Flaps stuck open

I searched through the forum and found some very helpful threads on 996 convertible top issues - however, none seemed to mention the side flaps being stuck open.

My top is currently closed. When I press the "open" button, the clamshell opens, and I hear two clicks separated by 5 seconds (seems to be the timeout error that other posters mentioned). Both side flaps are currently in the open position, and don't move at all when opening the top (picture attached):

Side flaps in open position with top closed

The car has a SmartTop, and was working well until very recently. The last time the top closed, it took longer than normal (also was on an uphill slope - knew it was a bad idea, should have listened to that voice in my head!)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I was planning on using the manual top opening procedure to get it into service position and refill the hydraulic fluid, but wanted to try any other possibilities first (given that manual opening would require recalibration). I thought the fact both side flaps are in the same position might indicate a certain microswitch to check?

I agree with Kuwaiti. The side flap microswitches are the likely cause.

Manual opening will require you to replace your motor drive link also, Porsche and other sell replacement kits.

I would not recommend the manual opening yet. If you read your owners manual there are some adjustments that you can do to the side flaps to adjust them.

Thanks for the quick replies, everyone. I'll hold off on the manual opening (would probably just take it to the usual indy mechanic at that point).

Kuwaiti or anyone else who has diagnosed the side flap microswitches - any advice on troubleshooting/ensuring that it's the microswitch causing the problem? I'll check the owners manual this evening as well.

The Indy diagnosed that micro switches is out . Its visual inspection and its easy to do all you need is to give your self access to the flaps by having the top in service mode and flash light , by the way I did my adjustment manually and you DONOT need to replace of the drive motor for that. It took me one hour to replace both sides no issue since then.

An update - took it to my local indy mechanic (great shop that I originally bought the car from and that has done all service since).

Looks like it is the hydraulic cylinders leaking. My mechanic has a specialist who rebuilds/refurbs the hydraulics - sending them over tomorrow.
