35 cars listed, somewhat surprising the see the quantity with asking price in the $30-$35K range, or even above $40K. Seems like this is about a $5K increase on average compared to when I was shopping 1.5 years ago, maybe the word is out, these things are soooooo darn good. Mileage seems to be the number one influence on asking price.
Agreed, they are definitely tracking higher... but I will say Autotrader is mostly dealers, which is accompanied by higher than market value pricing.
I've been watching this one on BaT, this seller seems to buy up 911's (and other cool cars), do all the necessary items (clutch, IMS, RMS, etc.) and put them on BaT. Their sale history is very extensive... https://bringatrailer.com/member/miles_s/
There are some private party here on Rennlist, sparsely on Craigslist. Autotrader is mostly dealers, but there are some private parties there too. Finding a no-story C4S coupe is not as easy as I originally thought it would be. Lots of dealers are asking just simply way too much for what they have.
The BaT sold for just under 32k. A bit more than I paid for mine (2002) 6 years ago. I have broached the idea of selling ours to my wife, not sure she is on board. Shoot me a PM.

This car is now owned my Tyler Hoovie of Hoovies garage youtube channel. The same guy that just blew up his 911 LS swap and Ferrari burnt to the ground. He's known for buying the cheapest cars. Watching some of his videos will show you the results of buying the "cheapest car in the US"
Seems like the turbo might be a better buy compared to a high priced C4S.
deals like this happen on BaT infrequently but predictably. A specific model gets a high sale, then a whole bunch more gets listed immediately following, till eventually the market demand (the BaT community, big as it is, is still a relatively small one) dies out, and some remarkable deals come through, with no small thanks to the aggressive BaT pushes the seller to set a low reserve. Happened with the R63 AMG; happened with E30 M3, then the E36 M3, then the E46 M3; and more. Given the flood of 996 c4s and turbos this summer, snatching one off BaT is for sure the way to go...assuming you find a listing you like.
Interesting post. I too am kicking around the idea of a 996 C4s after coming to the conclusion that my ‘88 is too nice to track hard. It is refreshing to see how the prices have stabilized / increased (?) over the past few years.
In my mind (where truth and reality seldom prevail apropos Porsche) I’m thinking a nice, sorted, low mile example in the mid 30’s may loose 5K if drivin 8-10K per year over the next few years. That’s a hell of a buy. What other p-car can you do that with right now? So, I am seriously interested in this thread, and real world purchase prices.
$39.9 is certainly top dollar but, as this thread has discussed, there are not easy to find in this condition. A solid point regarding this car is that the trans was dropped, the rms was replaced by Porsche but not the IMS.

In August, i bought my C4S in the mid 30s with 36k on the clock after spending months searching for a 996C4S or early 997. I too have noticed that nice examples are very hard to find and it seems nearly every C4S with under 50-60k miles goes for 30 or more.
To the OP, keep searching and I’m sure something will come up that fits the bill for you!
