Default CDR 220 Inop

Haven't been here in years, good to be back.
Just got an 01 996, a real puff, hasn't been touched much at all in the last few years. When the "on" button on the radio is pressed, I get just a little bit of light, but no display or audio at all. Removed unit, check the external chassis fuse and replaced, just out of caution, still no go. Guide says that row D number 8 is "radio", but unsure what that means. I can't remember--this car appears to have an underhood amp, but not the door bins associated with premium sound....but I don't think that changed until the .1. Other suggestions? Thanks if you can help...

I was also trying to remember, I think that amplifier has a chassis fuse as well...don't I have to remove the spare to get to it?

Its column D and the 8th one down on the fuse box by drivers side left foot. Do a google image search for a 996 fuse box and it will make sence. Also there is usually a paper "map" of the fuses attached to the fuse door. Also if u removed power u will need the 4 digit code to reactivate the unit.

Did you try removing the faceplate and cleaning the contacts? That could cause the behavior you describe.

Welcome back!

IMO, terrible radio. Just count yourself lucky and just trash the 220. Lots of good single DIN units out there. I am going for one of these:

If I remember correctly, that radio doesn't have line outputs, so you won't be able to use the OEM amp.

Ouch, right you are! Never noticed that. Do you know of a stepdown device I could put between standard line out and the amp?

Replaced D8.
Replaced chassis fuse on radio.
No other functions inop.
Have removed faceplate, but did not do thorough cleaning. That's about all thats left....

The guy who sells the radios was going to research it but had trouble finding anything that worked well. He never got back to me after that.
