Default Is my starter going out?

It takes more cranks than it should to fire off. If I drive somewhere and get back in it fires much quicker (heat maybe?)

2004 C4S

Thoughts?

Does it crank slower than normal or just take longer before it fires?

First thought is usually battery, starter cable, starter.

How old is your battery?

It cranks longer than normal. Doesn't seem to sound weak. I need to check the battery tomorrow as well. Just to make sure as I have not replaced it.

I know it could be any of the issues listed above, but I had a similar issue when i first bought my C2. I started keeping it on a battery tender and have had no issue since.

Mine cranked okay cold and poorly hot. I replaced the cable harness. This helped somewhat. I was close to getting a starter since my battery was only 3 years old. My real problem was the last battery I purchased was a crappy 600cca battery. I got a much stronger one that was like 900cca or something and it cranks like a sonofagun how or cold now.

An easy way to test is to use a nice battery charger that has a jumpstart/boost function that's at least 20-40A or so, and start the car with that hooked up. If the car starts eagerly with the extra amperage, you know the battery could be the cause.

Battery good or no, the starter cable update is a worthwhile mod.

They will be testing the battery here in a bit. It is 3 years old and a cheap one.

If the starter is spinning as fast but the engine just takes longer to fire up, I don't think it's the starter or battery. I would check for fuel pressure (leak test).
You can also try e-gas re-calibration first since it's free and easy to do by yourself.

I will try EGas as well. You remember the steps off the top of your head? Isn't it push in gas, turn key to option 1 or something like that?

No. E-gas calibration is - leave foot off pedal, insert key and turn to ON (not Start), wait 60 seconds and turn key off. That's it.
