Engine Lid Help
Guys,
I am looking to buy a 1999 996. Over all, it appears to be in pretty good physical shape. But a 10 year owner who doesn't seem to be much of an enthusiast could present interesting future discussions.
Be that as it may, the one photo of the engine compartment he sent is puzzling. Take a look at the lid. Specifically it doesn't appear to have the entire tray as found on my old 996 and all the other similar pictures of other cars I can find. Did they take out the air-dam and its mechanicals?
Can anyone tell me what is missing and if that is significant?
Thanks in advance.

Looks to me like the whole lower tray part of the spoiler mechanism is missing. See here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=803-07

Does it have a fixed spoiler bolted into the spot where the motorized unit was. I think some of the aftermarket wings are done like that.

Nope, no fixed spoiler now or in the past.
Not sure about the lower tray now. I went back and looked more closely at a picture on my old 996, and I "think" it was the same.
Thanks for the help!

yes, that is the angle
i'm not sure how that would still be attached if the underside was missing, but i'm not sure it is missing, it looks the same as the underside of mine (maybe some of mine is missing)
but i think you already answered your question in a previous post

Actually, don't want to thread jack but speaking of deck lids, does every ones "pop up" when the button to open it is used? Not pop open just pop up enought to get your fingers under it?
I recall my deck lid almost making a pop up sound like the frunk does and since I messed with the alignment it doesn't seem to anymore? Car is 04' C2.

dan you will hear the mechanism thats all, you then raise the lid.I don't recall a popping noise ever, maybe the frunk makes more of a noise when you use the switch

Thanks everyone, at present I can just hear the release mechanism release but not much else.
I thought you could hear it "pop up" might just be my imagination!
