Question Passenger seat power height adjustment won't work - All other adjustments do...?

Hi all,

I did a search to try to find out more information regarding my problem, but I couldn't come across any topics that were the same problem as mine.

The passenger seat in my 2000 911 coupe (2WD) is having an issue. The height adjustment won't work. Front and forward, and recline work just fine, as does the front "tilt" adjustment. But the seat height adjustment does nothing. Oddly enough, when you try to adjust it, you can clearly hear the motor working, but there is zero movement.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any ideas on what the problem may be or how to fix it?

Thanks guys.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a cable between the motor and the gear under the seat that failed. Lift up the seat and see if it’s failed, was a pretty easy fix and I think the part wasn’t too expensive.

Had the same problem a couple months back. Cable under the seat broke. Cheap easy repair.

I have the same problem too, But, sometimes after a while (months) of not trying to adjust the height, if I try it it will work. And, when it isn't working it is usually in the highest position and won't go down.

Any pics of the cable which needs to be replaced and where under the seat it is located? And, does the seat need to be removed?

Thanks

I have the exact same with my 99 coupe. Been on my ‘to do’ list for at least 3 years. I can probably coax the rear up by shoving the cable home. So, I have the same question as Artie WRT having to remove the seat to get at it.

Thanks

This is what I remember from doing this a couple months ago:

Need to change part number 5, 99652160900. It is held in place with two small bolts on the gear end. The other end is just inserted on the motor.

Remove the four bolts holding the seat in place. Tip the seat backwards into the rear compartment. The cable is easy to find, identify, remove and replace.

Reinstall seat. Enjoy going up and down in your seat.

Don

Part number 9965216090 0

The part to purchase is #5

That's fantastic, dhallford! My driver's side power seat height adjustment skips like a gear is stripped but I'll try the cable trick first.

Just did this on the weekend to run a backup camera. Need an E socket (female torx). I think it was an E10.

Hi - Have this issue also on 2003 C4S. Which part of the seat bottom are you talking about? The adjustment for the front of seat bottom adjustment or the rear? Mine is raked up permanently at the front. Guess not as bad as the front of the seat all the way down. Believe I need the cable that operates the vertical height of the rear of the seat bottom. Need to make sure I order the correct part with a rally 12hrs away in NC….

see this thread. I fixed mine by just reinserting cable and used metal tape to hold it until I have reason to remove seat.

Thanks. I was asking if it was from or rear seat bottom height adjustment that was being discussed. My understanding is there is a motor for each. Believe the flex cable being discussed is for rear adjustment. That’s my issue as I can hear the motor, but no cable there at all, so just confirming that.

Although I prefer proper fixes, I couldnt justify the time and effort to remove the seat to do a proper fix. Too cramped for zipties so metal tape it was and dont let my big footed nieces ride in the back(they are now 5’9 so no chance
