I don't think there would have been nearly as many complaints about parts sharing and cheapness if Porsche designed the Boxter/Carrera Fried Egg 1999 lights to look like the 996.2 lights. I'm thinking the amber lights were just considered ugly and of course a departure from the traditional shape.

You gentlemen have bad taste. The best looking model is the 9967.12....without a doubt.

2004 C4S in Atlas Grey
Agree that C4S was the prettiest. I regret selling it. Boxster is beautiful car, but very different from a 911.

I'll bite. Don't care for the AWD system, but boy do I love the rear 3/4 view of my C4S.

Agree about not caring for AWD. It adds weight, up to 150kg (that's a sumo wrestler as a passenger), adds unsprung weight and torque to front wheels, which affects steering (still very good though), and changes on/over the limit handling.
So if your priority is driving purity RWD has the win, but if you need slippery conditions traction, or are fearful of RWD oversteer, AWD is the best choice.
Sadly, in the 996, if you want those sexy wide hips, your only choice is AWD.
I put driving ahead of aesthetics. C2 manual. Always.
And the rear 3/4 view is the best for pretty much every 911, but especially the 996.
