Default 2100 mile road trip: I also meet 911/Q45

We're home after a really great road trip. 2100 miles, and no hits, no tickets, no errors. Flawless. Get your TTs out of the garage and onto the highway.

I was invited to stop by 911/Q45 (Don) in San Luis Obispo on the way down from Santa Cruz. Another terrific Rennlister. He has a beautiful home and a charming wife (who makes a great cup of coffee). He described the fun of tracking down one of the first 993TTs in the USA, and purchasing it new. He waited 10 months from initial discussion until delivery of his guards red TT with sports seats and sunroof delete. He also had the factory delete the "Turbo" script on the rear spoiler. We could only visit for a short time, as I had to get Ryan home to prepare for school tomorrow (he's upstairs right now, preparing by playing socom Navy seals), but I hope to see both Don and Viperbob again someday soon.

Rennlist rocks. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and the hospitality.

Oh, I have to add a nutty tale. My daughter's boyfriend is a photographer, and he loves my car. We got up before dawn, and took the car to Henry Cowell state park to get some nice background. He used his 11 Mpixel Canon SLR, and get this... he took a shot of the front third, another of he middle, and another of the rear third (he has some sort of a "tilt/shift" lens thingee). He then stitched those together for the most amazing picture imaginable, He printed one out (about 20x30), and I'll be getting it framed. He also shot a photo of one wheel. This was done using his 4x5 camera with a digital back. It took 10 minutes to scan the image, which results in a 300 Mbyte file. I also have a 20x30 of my wheel! Amazing. I gotta get a digital camera. Meantime, if I can figure out how to shrink the images down, I'll try to post them.

Steve, if you want to get the file to me, I can run a conversion on it to shrink it.

Thanks for sharing the details of your trip with us, Steve. Sounds like a great time. It's also good to know that a seven-year old supercar can be so reliable over a 2100 mile trip.

Care to share your top speed from your trip?

icerbofh,

Thanks for the offer. I'll try to figure this out... I have three images of each shot: a HUGE tif, an 8x10 tif, and a smaller jpeg. I may be able to resize the jpeg and post it. If not, I'll accept your offer, and will email it.

John,

The car was flawless, and came home with 57,000 miles on her. At no time did we exceed 175 MPH. Or 165. Actually, when passing a car on a two-lane hiway, the car would be doing 120 so quickly it was awesome. Sure is easy to pass cars! I think 120 was as fast as we went, during a passing maneuver.

Steve,

175 mph sounds like some serious Autobahn speed.
How long can you probably drive at that speed without getting caught?
What would happen if you got caught at that speed?

Patrick,

My exact wording was "at no time did we exceed..." We never even got close to that speed... 120 during a passing manuever was about it. Getting caught here in the states at 175? Probably varies from state to state, but you would certainly pay a big fine, lose you drivers license, and maybe even spend a night or two in jail? Plus my wife would remove my nuts.

Steve,
I should have known better.
When "I" read that you were doing 175mph I was already thinking about applying for a greencard and move to CA.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!......................
I know of desert roads ......where I live here in california.....
where 175 would not be a problem. There is one CHP for
every 100,000 sq miles of desert. And if California is not
good enough...... Nevada is just next door.

That sorta used to be true. The speed limit was stated something like "prudent and proper", which left a lot of elbow room. I believe, however, that has changed, and both Montana and Nevada have speed limits (75 mph max?). I think we all have to come to Germany and drive your car on the Autobahn.

Steve,

I think you meant Youri not Your. I want to drive his car too.
