Alternator belt breaking

Default Alternator belt breaking

the alternator belt on my car kept breaking. Change twice but both broke within a month. That despite hardly drive the car. There was a whinning sound and then it breaks.

The bearing turn freely. What else can cause this?

1. Incorrectly installed (too tight or too loose)
2. Damaged pulley(s)

Too tight for sure. This happend to me a few times (not close to home either). You should also try to get a pulley upgrade...

And ensure you're using the correct Porsche belt.

There is a Pulley update for the cars. Here's the part number to get.

993-106-268-01 - You'll need 2 of these. They are called Half Pulleys I think. About 45 bucks each. If you can't find them for that price PM me and I'll direct you on where to go.

Not that I am aware of. My Mech just told me to get the newer style Stamped Metal half pulleys instead of the original ones that are/were on my car.

Actually there was a TSB on this, it is Group 1, #7/97a.
This TSB also changes the belt to p/n 999 192 372 50.
