Hello Everyone,
I hope you can help me out here… I bought a 993 turbo rear wing (Not an S version) from a fellow rennlister recently. After comparing it to the wing on a friends low mileage, no accidents one owner car it appears the wing is an aftermarket part however the seller is insistent it’s a genuine Porsche part and he stated the following when I asked him to take it back “At this point I cant take the spoiler back. Many times what Porsche and other companies produce for replacement, vary somewhat from the original, especially in non-mechanical components. “.
So I thought I’d throw it out to the experts so I can get this resolved quickly and cleanly. I’ve attached three pictures. The navy blue one’s are from the wing I purchased and the silver one being from what I believe is a factory original part. If you could please let me know if your, 96, 97 or 98 has the following features (Highlighted in red) as opposed the molded in pieces of the blue wing. Also let me know the year of your TT as well.
Thanks in advance.

What is the part number?
It is located in the middle of the section where the rubber strip is on the lower red area in your silver pic.
Mine was:
993 512 513 00
>UP-GF 25<
The silver one is OEM.
The blue one is not.
The black riveted grill mounting chingus is correct.
I have a plethora of pictures of regular and S wings that came off of Andie before he bacame El Guapo.

Thanks guys! I've checked everywhere for a part number and there's none to be found. I know the answer in no, but I need this to be a definitive answer... Is there any way it could be a genuine Porsche part from a 97 or 98 model year?

Not in my opinion. I've had a 1996 and have a 1997 turbo and have had both regular and S wings.
Here is a closeup of the PN from Andi:

PM me if you would like more pictures.

Looks aftermarket to me. Porsche puts a part number on just about everything.
I'll check mine (18k mile '96 with no damage or repaint) when I get to the office this morning.

IMHO, as a Rennlist member, he should take it back with no questions asked. One advantage of being a member of this community is the trust factor. Even if he believes you're wrong, he should take it back. Good luck.

+1. Exactly. I'd expect better from a Rennlist Member selling to another Rennlister. I hope you guys resolve this matter to everyone's satisfaction. One possible solution, is for you to receive a partial return of your payment, and keep the lesser valued wing, but only if you actually like the fit & finish of the aftermarket product.

P/N of wing on my car verifies same as Scott's; as well as modular design as opposed to molded piece.
Was this represented as OEM, and priced as such? If so, and you're not happy, the seller should remedy the situation. My $.02.

Ok guys, it's been over a week since I contacted the seller and so far I have heard nothing back. I know the seller has recieved my emails and that he has seen this thread because his name is listed in the "recent visitor to this page" box. (Hi Jay) The scarey part is that he just posted an add on the 24th with another car for sale. I have no choice but to believe that this guy is a scammer... As I've said before, I want to get this resolved. Give me your thoughts on what I can/should do with this guy.
Thanks,
Dec

I will not give Declan's misrepresentations credence by engaging in a pissing contest on this board. This will be my one and only response. Fellow members can draw their own conclusions.
1. Buyer committed to the spoiler on 9-22-10
2. Spoiler was picked up personally by buyer; it was thoroughly inspected for at least 30 minutes by buyer
3. Buyer is in the auto business, has raced professionally and builds cars; hence a knowledgeable buyer
4. Nearly 4 weeks transpired (approx 10-18-10) when buyer changed his mind about the item
5. Original owner re-confirmed spoiler was purchased, painted and installed by Porsche dealer.
I am not a store and this is not my business. Had the buyer not waited a month between his commitment to purchase and when he decided he no longer wanted it, perhaps the outcome would have been different. Also when the buyer chose to use this forum to express this private matter and to slander me, he closed the door to any consideration.
Buyer is free to use the spoiler as originally intended or he can re-sell it. He paid $1,500.
