Default Need some guidence and checklists

I am purchasing a 96 993TT with 60K miles in NM. I am in PA. I had Porsche of Albuquerque do a PPI on the car, but it appears that they may have not done the leakdown properly. The service manager called me and told me that they did a leakdown and that there was 120 accross all cylinders. I asked what the leakdown % were and they said they forgot to do it.

A day goes by and they tell me that the leakdown was preformed under the direct supervision by a PCNA rep who happened to be there. They told me the numbers were 0% across cylinders 1-6 at 100PSI. I said that there is no way that those are accurate numbers and I even sent the paperwork over to Doughertys Automotive (my local shop who is excellent by the way) who also said that the test was not completed correctly. I scheduled another leakdown for tomorrow at German Motorwerke and hope to hear good news back.

I need to be reassured that there is no way to have 0% on a leakdown and also a checklist of what I need to purchase a car out of state that has a note owned by a credit union. Do I pay the owner or the credit union?

I have sent monies to hold the car and the owner seems to be a straight shooter so I have scheduled my father to fly down on Wednesday to finish the purchase.

that dealer must be retarded.

120 is low. Mine was between 140 and 150 on all holes.

0% leakdown is not happening. Even with ring seal as good as its gonna get, you'll see at least 1-2% leakdown. Its the nature of having ring gaps.

get a ppi done at a better indy who knows that they are doing.

0% leakdown doesn't exist.

the only way it may be possible is on a just broken in engine with total seal rings, and even then I don't think you'll get there.

This would be why you don't have dealers touch a 15 year old Porsche.

German Motorwerke did an actual leakdown and it came back at 10, 10, 12, 12, 13, 10. Upon telling them the story about the dealer he laughed uncontrollably and said:

Compression was 110 -115 across all cylinders.

I'd pass based upon those numbers.

compression is low, leakdown is high.

although consistent, I'd be cautious buying a car with such high leakdown.

how much are you paying for the car and is the exact color combo you like -- and is there anything untoward when it's driven hard?

Sorry Bert, I thought you car was sold already. Got your PM too late. I went through with the deal and we knocked 6K off of the already good sale price so I am happy. I talked with the tech who did the leakdown and he said that the numbers were similar to what he would expect on a cold car.

I have more than enough left over for a top end if needed and the car was absolutely perfect in every other way both mechanically and cosmetically with every record since new.

Pop is on the way home with the car now and says that it looks and drives like it is brand new. I will post the pics when he gets here.

sounds like you got a good deal and you're comfortable with the potential risk of top end build. buying a car that's 15 yrs old is about taking calculated risks. i bought my 993tt without a leakdown/compression. frankly i didn't care even it didn't have a motor and i would have to rebuild the whole thing; it looked sooooo pretty inside and out and when i saw it had black sports seats it was done, i just had to have it. so what color did you get? looking forward to your pics...

Very funny, that 993C2S will always be mine whether I officially own it or not.
