As reference i have (2) sets of 19" aluminum Rufs and a new set of HRE's that i use with track rubber and the difference in weight is a scary 85 lbs. I can not explain what a difference it is to drive (night and day) however i do like the look of the Rufs so much.......... So just keep them or sell them to me so i can have 3 sets

Thank you all that have responded. I am leaning more towards keeping the wheels instead of returning them to Ruf. Ruf sent me an e-mail telling me that they have a set of alum. ones ready to ship to me. Actually they seem a bit anxious to get my magnesium wheels back?????
droy3 [quote] I would keep the Mg ones and ask Ruf to send you the new Al ones and sign a form indicating that you absolve them of any liability. Don't know if it's possible but it seems reasonable. When and if you sell the car you're covered with the new rims and you can/should disclose to new owner and have him also absolve you of any liability stemming from the Mg rims. Just my two cents...
This is a very good suggestion droy3. I don't think they will go for it but I will try.
BTW...I drive my car way more than 200 miles per year

Hal - Glad to see you are still around... where have you been?
Scott - I too LOVE the look of the RUF wheels (too bad they dont fit my car) but the MAG ones are sweet!!!
If you DONT use them on the track - push for the DROY suggestion - then sell the alloy ones and buy some nice light track wheels.... Ohh sorry - I forgot - you DONT track your car
Simon.

Bradford...that's funny because in a post a ways back I mentioned that Ruf had quit making all the mag wheels due to cracking. You responded that your's were fine. So if they are fine, you should just have 'em crack checked 1x a year and continue to enjoy them. Lord knows that are a reasonable weight compared to the aluminum ones! I have a buddy in Glendale that has 1 rear one left, if you crack one of those let me know. One thing for certain, mag will at some point crack. As you well know, LA doesn't have the smoothest roads in the world, especially in the canyons.

In my eyes the risk is too high with the mag rims!
Whih series you have? The series with the "O.Z racing for Ruf " sign?
Go with the aloys!
The weight from the mags is sweet and they are very exclusive but i would be always afraid
to get in big trouble!
The aloys are heavy but they are stron and he look is great!

OZ, I have never been concerned about the wheels cracking as I don't drive the car that hard. I know the canyon roads around here very well as I live right next to them. I know where to go and not to go. I think I'll stick with the Mg ones for now, thanks

Scott,
Here is another thought... there are some aftermarket replica RUF 19" wheels that are TUV approved. Investigate these, and if possible, buy a set and put your mag wheels on the shelf. They are too rare and valuable to give up. Also, the replicas are available in an 11" rear width!

I think a Replica isn´t the right way!
Sounds like "a Rolex Fake shows correct time, too!"
Ok, 1.000-2.000 USD mor for the Original is money but it is
spend at the right side!

Heard back from Ruf today. They are waiting for Mr. Ruf to return next week before they make a decision. I will keep you posted.
Steve, thanks for the tip.

Well if OZ made the mag wheels, I wonder who makes the aluminium ones for RUF.
edit: I did a little more research:
The website for the "ersatz" wheels states:
We stand behind our products. Our OE wheels from Italy are made in the same factory as RUF, Techart, and Gemballa to name few at a fraction of their cost.
You see where I'm headed here, right?
$1499 v $4299
Would you pay $2800 to have the RUF name if they turn out to be identical?
