I need a 1997 TT DMU
Can any one answer this question. What is the differance between the 1996 and 1997 DME The parts dept at Porsche says 993 618 665 10 is non imobilzer and 993 618 666 10 is with imobilizer. 1996 and up They dont show a 1997 spacific.

AFAIK,...'96 DME's have all been superceded to the '97 ones.
There are internal differences but their functionality is identical. The 665 versions have Drive Block (immobilizer) and the 666 ones do not; this makes them a "plug-'n-play" in any TT.

993.618.666.00. Is this a 1997 one chip unit?
I found a part number for a 1997 DME..993.618.604.10. Does that exsist?

These lie just above the bar code on the label and look like this:0.261.204.xxx with the last 3 numbers being the key ones.
Send that to me and I'll tell you what it is.

Thank you Steve. I found a shop here in the North East named Farnbacher Loles.OMG what a place. He said he would do a custom tune on the dyno and he could work with the 1996 or 1997 computer.

I would have been shocked if your tuner could have chipped/tuned your 96 DME 665 code. I had the same problem a yr back and had to purchse a 97. They are getting hard to come by now it seems.

I agree that they seem hard to come by now. A few months back I was about to buy a 96 993TT and called about 8 Porsche dealerships looking for he 97 DME/ECU/brain/whatever you want to call it. None of them had it and a few told me that it was no longer produced, Not sure if any of that is true or not, but I ended up paying more a 97 car. Now my buddy has found a sweet 96 993TT that seems like the right car, but he definitely wants to tune it, so does anybody know the real story? It sure seems like there are a lot of very fast 96 993TT on this board. Kevin, is it true what I have seen in posts, that you can rework the 96 brain?
