i switched to 15 50 and it made a very minor difference if any,all porsche turbo motors make this noise and its something we have to deal with. i was at my tech's shop this weekend uninstalling my shiort shift kit another story all together and he had a 996tt stage 4 there and it ticked much louder than mine, he says its normal and not to worry about it

I've run 15w50 Mobil 1 in my car since I got it new, works fine. I'm starting to have trouble finding it though.

i just changed out to 15 50, the worlds biggest walmart here in sacramento stock quite a bit of it, $19 for 5qts. They also carry that great oil drain pan, next time i change the oil i must remember to remove the yellow breathing cap

As Iruss posted, no problem finding Mobil 1 synthetic oil. I routinely find Mobil 1 15w50 at Wal Mart, Costco and Target in 5 qt jugs. ~$23.00/5 qt jug here in Ohio. For me the more difficult viscosity to find is the 0w40. But it shows up periodically and I restock as needed.

BTW- I have run nothing but Mobil 1 15w50 in the 993TT without incident.

15/50 is the way to go, it was what they were meant to run certainly in the UK. 964's tend to suffer with oil leaks on 0/40 that you just don't get with 15/50. in the uk they call it motorsport grade

You might find the MOTUL 300V 15 w 50 as a better alternative than the Mobil 1. The Mobil 1 formula in Europe is different from the Mobil 1 here in North America.

The MOTUL synthetic formula is the same in Europe and here. A few cup cars in ROLEX Grand Am have gone to the MOTUL instaed of using the Mobil 1.

The ESTHER additive technology and other ingredients that is used is much superior in Europe for the Mobil 1 synthetic. Similar to Motul and Agip oils. The formula that is used here for Mobil 1 is VERY generic and not as high quality.
