Default Input on Brakes

I found my problem to the violent steering wheel shake at higher speeds--rotors. So, I need to decide to go with OEM or something different. I am thinking Zimmermann rotors with Mintex low dust brake pads. Anyone using this combo? Any other combo/options you have been pleased with? Any input is much appreciated! Aaron

Are you sure its the brakes/rotors?

How do you know its not possibly the tie rod arms/bushings?

I don't believe Zimmerman makes rotors for the 993 Turbo.

Either way, I highly recommend you stick with OEM rotors.

OEM with RS rear calipers does the job best of all......For pads I am using Pagid RS4-2-1 whcih they advertise thus:
RS 4-2-1 Black
High Performance compound with low fading characteristics and high cold friction. The RS 4-2-1 is a most comfortable medium friction compound and very easy on the discs (rotors). Very popular for brake up grades or tuning. It is OE on various Super Sports Cars among others Aston Martin, Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborgini, Lotus or McLaren. Suitable for street and light track use such as track days or driving education.

Street use only they stop very well and not too much dust however they do squeal quite a bit until you get some heat through them. I intend to try these next time round:
Pagid S Type
The Sport Pad is a high performance compound with low fading characteristics and high cold-friction. The most comfortable medium friction sport compound. The Sport Pad is rotor friendly and suitable for street and light track use. Available for most Audi, BMW, Porsche and VW applications.

There was a thread somewhere recently about low-dust pads, apparently you're giving up stopping power when you go with them.

I use the pagid blacks as well, no issues. I am pondering the thought of RS rear calipers now.

TB did you notice a difference with those on the car. I only track my car FYI

Couldn't tell the difference (road only) It was given as an option by Gert (www.carnewal.com) who did me a great deal on full set of new discs and calipers. The 993tt brakes in this set up are awesome though

Don't forget there are 2 different Pagid "Black" pads. The RS4-2-1 and the RS-14s with the latter being a very agressive racing pad.

I am using the 14s. So far I have not noticed the pad transfer issue that the oranges are infamous for.

aperalta : I do have the same vibration during high speeds. Are you sure that the rotors is the main cause? And does it increase at higher speeds? thnx!

My vibration only occurs when braking at higher speeds. I have made an appointment with Hergesheimer who will look at it next week. However, I have explained these observations to Laura at Hergies and have been told it is most likely rotors/pads, possibly a balancing problem(thrown weight).

Aperalta,
I had some vibrations- they went away immediately when we replaced the bushings on the A-arms. I thought it was my brakes as well. Ask Chris Walrod. Good luck.

Michael,

Did vibration occur only during breaking? I appreciate the input and will note the A-arm bushings as a possible suspect when I take her in next week. Thanks--Aaron

Only under braking at high speed? Kinda odd...

Pretty much only during breaking.... Chris Walrod can give you details as he fixed it
