Porsche 993 TT vs. Modded Honda Civic?
As ridiculous as it sounds I stumbled upon a site called speedmagazine and this young kid on there seems to believe his Honda Civic with 290 Hp and 214 Ft Lbs of torque can keep up with the 993TT. He seems to believe because his car weighs 2600 lbs with his HP he can run low 12's to 11's. Am I missing something here is this just a pile of dung?
I have not had my car to the track but I am fairly confident even at his weight he isn't running low 12's. Has anyone had their car at the track and what kind of times do you run? I autocross but don't run my car at the 1/4 track.

Haa Haa exactly my thoughts too. And No quarter mile times don't really matter. I was just wondering if I was missing something on these souped up hondas that make them faster than a Porsche or Ferrari or whatever.
I'll just sweep this one under the rug where it belongs. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

I think on the track a very well modified civic could keep up with a "Stock" 993TT.. i've seen a video tape of a Spoon Civic and a Mugen Civic racing with a Skyline GTR V-Spec and several other jap cars, the Spoon Civic won the race and at one point, it stopped on the track and waited for the skyline to catch up and pass him; then he starts again. But, how much money would you have to throw in a civic for it to have such performance and on the highway, it will still gets its butt KICKED by our porsches: with that kind of $$, a 993TT would be my choice over anything..

My 951 has 400hp and more tq than that, and it weighs close to that civic, and it wont do 11's. That kid is a retard.
a stock 993TT would eat that civic up in all aspects of performance.

Well do what I do and tell them to bring cash. LOL, please 11s. I am a full IA stage III and on a nasty launch high 11s is consistent. I will not get to aggressive with my launches anymore as I have broken two trannies. The third I think is the fix. I ran a stage 8 Stillen 300ZxTT two weekends ago. I have been waiting for this now for over a year. I simply couldn't handle any more talk from this putz. He finally accepted the fact that I schooled him.. and that's no civic! Sheez

11s without some sort of forced induction on those cars is very hard to achieve, however don't underestimate those little Civic HBs. With a J-spec B18 or even an H22 engine they are capable of 12 second passes all day long and they handle pretty rad too, the only thing is it feels so damn cheap to drive one of those fast in the end you get back into the 911 and a sigh of relief comes over your face as you are now driving a real sports car and not a hot-rodded econobox. And yes, I have seen a Honda Civic walk a 993TT so it is VERY possible, just not likely.

I think it's great that a kid can modify his car to be as fast or faster than a 993 TT. It's this kind of ingenuity that pushes the manufacturers to make even faster cars. I was once beat by a modified Mazda RX-7 while driving my 450 HP 993TT. When he eventually stopped, I also stopped and got out to shake his hand (he thought I was going to hurt him!) His modifications were very impressive. You could not tell it wasn't from Mazda.

glad to see you guys aren't just hating on the honda and are appreciating fast cars. I constantly get in debates w/ idiots on forums who just bash and bash and bash.
I pulled pretty hard in the crx i built on a guy in a modded 96 cobra a few years back at the street races, i beat him by about 1 car and was shifting early so the car had more in it. Well he was just pissed and kept talking **** so we did a run for money and i gave it all and whipped him good. He proceeded to get out and just talked **** and **** and ****. I told him don't even give me the money just appreciate the car for being fast. He wouldn't get pass the point that it was a honda.
Well back to the point. It's not hard at all to get these little 4 bangers into high 12's all motor anymore, they are actually hitting high 10's n/a. But that is w/ no interior at all and the cars weighing in at around 2,000 lbs. A forced induced full interior car will hit 12's w/o a problem. Now they may take you in the 1/4 mile, on the freeway you will absolutely DESTROY them. I know i made the mistake of trying to race a 996TT on the freeway, while it was stock our times would of been close in the 1/4 mile, once we got about 100 it was all over. Your gearing will absolutely pull through and shine at highway speeds.

Burning Brakes
At the first event at this year's OTC, the Canuck Civic beat the 996 Turbo. I think the Civic was not running well by the time they got to Willow Springs (big motor track) so it's hard to say if they'd be able to keep up on a fast track.
