Does anybody know what is the maximum tire size I can put on a 993 turbo?

If you are running standard 8x18 and 10x18 wheels, the largest recommended combination in the "Cargraphic" catalogue are:
fronts 245/40x18
rear 295/35x18
The draw backs of the large rubber are: cost, and propensity to tramline can increase to make the car difficult to drive over badly cambered roads. I have 9x18 front and 11x18 rears on my tt and use stock sized tires for this reason.

Has anyone used 235/295 MPSC's. I had the stock sizes but now have 996TT wheels that are wider and want the best performance for my upcoming track day. Thanks,
Michael

I've got the same wheels and am going to try 235 front and 315 rear. The diameters are the same, better for the viscous coupler.

I use 235/295 MPSC and they work fine. You might want to think about your camber. At -1.4 I wore the outside edges of my fronts.

In answer to the original post, it looks to me like Don's 315s will fit no problem on 996 rims. The 235/40 is about as tall as you can go in front.

I've heard this expression "tramlining" before. What, exactly, does this mean? When I brought up the idea of using 235's to the guys at JZM they said that would make the car over-tyred? Same thing? And I seem to remember it was the front size they were worried about.

Thanks ...

do you have to keep the front -rear ratios even to stock so that the awd coupler is not damaged or confused?

yes there is a margin of like 4%. the tirerack can tell you if you call I run 235 and 295 on the street 245 315 on the track. My friend has squeezed in 265s up front with minor rubbing of the fender liner

Default Going to buy tires today

Should I go 225/285 or try wider on my 996tt wheels. Aren't the factory sizes on a 996tt a 225/295 setup? Will the car push more with more tire in the back and not the front? Help!!!!

Go with this -

235/40/18
295/30/18

I've always run this size on MPSC's and PS2's, works good.

If your sway bars are adjustable, you can add tire in the back and stiffen up the rear bar to stay neutral. That's what I'm going to do when I swap out my tires and wheels.

Michael,

I used my 235/40 and 295/30 MPSCs on the street this last summer and they were great, other than picking up every rock they met. The ride comfort with them was actually better than my old P0s and comparable to my 19" S03s (245/35 and 285/30). No rubbing, even with some spirited cornering. Car is RS ride height with PSS9s and RS sways. Good luck.
