Probably a good thing we can't understand Japanese, especially when the F40 goes through the sand trap!

my japanese is okay, quick translation off the top of my head from what I remember: the drivers are saying how fast the cars passing them are! I heard 'becareful/dangerous' a few times. The 993tt driver is complaining that there's too much power and he's sliding quite a bit. The GT3 driver is saying how he's impressed that the car just goes where he points it and how well it handles/how in control he feels and how he feels he is keeping up to the F cars in the corners no problem. The F40 driver is appologizing as he goes through the sand!

That was superb! I always wanted to see the top supercars battle it out! Great fun!

It goes to show you though that unless you are racing, the difference between top P , F & L cars isnt a heck alot of difference in the real world. They all were fast round the track... even the GTR.

Good to see the F40 is still a damm fast car... next we want the CGT, Enzo & Veyron etc up together

Yes great video, thanks Kevin.

For me this clearly shows me how heat soak takes its toll on our good old aircooled cars and the reason why they hardly win any more endurance races. Obviously a progression of lap times would have been a better indication. I am assuming they all ran with similar tires.

I can only imagine how fast a higher boosting 993TT would have seen its performance drop over the laps.

These guys have the best videos out there, a bunch of great drivers curious to see how good cars really are.

With all the understeer going on out there I wonder why no one tried left-foot braking into the apex....

Basal Skull that is bad news, I am becoming more and more sceptical (sp) with age!

JR, these guys are very experienced drivers, I have a few of their DVDs, in one of them they challenge Mc Rae (if I recall correctly) and are dead even with him on the track. IMO, left foot braking is just another technique that many professional Porsche drivers don't use, except very rarely (like tapping the brakes just before braking point.) I do like it.

So Jean when are you going to take the lead and install a 996TT engine into your beast!! You have enough bumper area for the radiators..

if heat soak was an issue for these cars, then should the F40 have not been having the same issue? it was killing the Porsches in acceleration right at the end of the race... (its a turbo V8, remember?)

or where the faster cars just "trapped behind the 2nd -3rd car in the pack right from the start, just waiting on the oppertunity to streach their legs?

'if heat soak was an issue...'

Because F cars are water cooled?

The F cars do have water cooled engines, but "heat soak" refers to the intercooler, and to the fact that the incoming air cannot be cooled down anymore because the intercooler cannot dissipate the heat as fast as it is being created.... that is why people buy bigger intercoolers, they don't make HP, they just let you make HP longer.

and the F40 is and air to air intercooler if my memory serves me correctly, it is situated on top of the motor behind the drive just like the Porsche...

does that make such a hugh diffrence? so does that mean the P cars will match the F cars acceleration with normal "burst of acceleraton"? lets say 20 seconds or less?

and were the cars in the video supposed to be in factory trim? or were the supposed to be moddified? thanks...

the F40 weighs 2425 lbs and makes 472 HP -- that is 5.13 HP per lb

the GT2 weighs 3175 lbs and makes 462 HP -- that is 6.87 HP per lb

the GT3 weighs 3076 lbs and makes 412 HP -- that is 7.4 HP per lb

the 993tt weighs 3307 lbs and makes 400 HP -- that is 8.26 HP per lb
---(make 600 hp in this car and keep the stock weight and its 5.51 HP per lb)

I'm here because i love the P car too, not to "flame" them... I just sold a 05 Gallardo that I bought new to be able to "have fun" my car again... there is no aftermarket support fo the "super cars" other than an exhaust or a fake ECU upgrade...

It seems to me the F40 / F50 were just waiting fotr the right time to pass...

(btw) -this is not a "flame" type reply... just an honest look at what was really on the track that day...

disclamer--- i'm no expert... don't trust anything i say unless you have found it to be true from your own research.

Ima2nr, I think and agree to what Jean is saying.. Yes, it's a given that the IC will be subject to heat soak. However, we know that the Secan IC are very good, and I assume that the F40's are using Garrett IC's (my guess) to match there Garrett turbochargers. The 993GT2 is taking a additional hit from losing power due to heat building up in the cylinder heads and oiling system. As the heat increases knock reduces timing.. Power is being taken away from the output of this car as laps increase..
