VMAX today--Any news?
Rennlisters from the UK, anyone has news from the long awaited VMAX, I understand it is/was today? I have checked the PH forum but nothing has been posted yet.
Based on the list posted, unfortunately there was only one 993TT entrant, our own MOD500 with his Banana 533HP upgrade kit from RS Tuning , running against a bunch of 996TT and other supercars.
If anyone has any info please post.
Thanks

It will have been a hot day; temps peaked in the low 90's in many parts of England today. Nothing compared to what you're used to Jean but here roads will have melted and train tracks will have buckled.

90 degrees is winter here as you know...Certainly this will not help our aircooled banana hero

Yes, the heat did not help matters.
My best speed was 183.
I removed the top part of my bi plane spoiler (GT2 wing), and folded my mirrors in to try and get maybe 185. But sadly, at 180 part of the front splitter decided to jettison itself, causing the front end to bob up and down. Am eminently happy the two sides parts did not come off too, since the prospect of them going under the front wheels at such speeds does not bare thinking about (will start a separate thread about wings, etc).
I am really pleased how the car went post mods. It felt really strong and was really boosting hard hard considering the 33 deg heat.
One thing I am amazed at is how much over-boost the car is producing. On the way down at 5am, I was playing around in 5th and 6th (private motor way), the temp was 14 deg and it consistently hit 1.5 bar for a second or two in both gears. I could not believe my eyes when on one attempt in 6th it went to 1.6 bar! On the way home in the afternoon heat it still was hitting 1.5 bar in 5th and 6th. On runs with other cars, the 'attack' of over-boost when doing 2nd or 3rd gear starts from 3-4k revs was quite obvious. The real killer gear in the car is 5th, when it feels to take on another level of aggression.

Did a few runs with other cars:
996 X50 - he got the jump on the standing start (sorry to my gearbox here BTW), I got past (fast walking pace) at around 120.
CL65 AMG - think had engine probs, so not valid
Leon & RUF 993TT - 2nd gear start to 140 odd, he pulled 1 or 2 car lengths ahead. Then on main straight starting 3rd to 150 (dare not go above this due to band aid fix to splitter) I pulled 2 car lengths or so. Think that is a fair analysis, hopefully Leon will be along soon, would be good to hear his views I started the 2nd gear start run with the window open, and I can testify that his car is f@ckin loud at full chat!
DeR - I/C hose blew off during the run
Z3 M - fine

Speeds are up:

There are some nice pics in the v-max forum. There is a picture of the stylish temporary fix to my front splitter somewhere too, I feel a vocation in cosmetic surgery might be looming

Mod,
Glad to hear you were ok, despite losing the splitter.
I look forward to experiencing your car, but must say I do worry about the idea of boost hitting 1.5 or 1.6bar. I cannot believe that the turbos will be efficient at those levels and that it will do any good to the engine over the long-term. Did RS Tuning say that it's meant to do that, as no other car I've heard of ever boosts to those levels..........

MOD you've answered some questions for me! I was wondering why my car 'felt' stronger in fifth than it does in 3rd! You can really feel the overboost but I just can't understand why it feels like it pulls harder in fifth than lower gears.
Also, how much BHP or Lbft do turbo cars lose as the temp rises?

It won't actually be stronger in 5th - ie the Gs you are pulling will be less than 4th etc - this "feeling" is a relative feeling IMO - some other tuner offerings will have heatsoaked themselves by 5th and the power will have dropped off - its the benefit of the mapping being done under full load road reproducing conditions.

MOD,
I think this is a fantastic speed considering your car mods, weight and aerodynamics! You should be very happy with the result.
I have been exploring PH for the data and pictures, amazing stuff, you had some very good photographers there.
So this is the third time that a RUF GT2 Nardo wins the competition, which is not suprising, those RUF 996GT2 are really great cars.
There are some interesting comparisons to be made from the results I think, although obviously there are variables that are uknown to me at least..
- You had the same top speed as a 996TT X50 which is somewhat realistic and shows the drag advantage of those cars and your lowsy drag coefficient with the GT2 wing + some heat soak air cooled vs watercooled...
- The difference between a stock 993TT and your car or DeR (since he has stock wing) was from 167mph to 183mph, about 16mph, and the HP difference must be around 120HP or so?
- The difference between the 996TT X50 and a DMS 996TT was 183-189mph, or a difference of 6 mph, Hp difference (extrapolating from above) would be around 60-70HP since drag increases at the square of speed. DMS car must have had around 510-520HP.
-996TT X50 and 996GT2 had same speed, while the GT2 is slightly more powerful and lighter => impact of aerodynamics and fatter tires?.
- Difference between stock GT2 and GT2 Nardo was 9mph, about 90-100hp since the Nardo was at higher speeds than the rest. That would put the Nardo at about 570-580 HP, almost spot on the claims, on a hot day.
- Difference between 996TT and 996TT X50: 178mph ->183mph = 5mph, about 40HP difference, consistent with above.
-Not so good Weltmeister 993, with stock wing, more HP and less weight than your car, it only managed the same speed. In my opinion, this is about 20-25hp less than you. When I think about some of the bets and challenges that were put on the table a few months' back, I laugh.
- Very disappointed by the performance of the beautiful RUF 993 with 558HP, 1313 Kgs and aerodynamic aids, which posted a mere 1mph faster than your 533HP GT2 winged, full weight car. I would have expected that car to be at least 10-15 mph faster. It does not seem like the HP is there at all. I don't know if the car had an issue?
I posted on the other thread what I think the impact of the GT2 wing aerodynamics would be on your car, anywhere between 3-6mph.
Very nice pics, there is one of you in action against another car but a bit smallish.
Cheers
