Unfortunately I know it was not your car. I hope you can be there the next time
LAT, the VMAx is a straight line race that is organised in the UK, this one was in Bruntingthorpe I believe. It is about 1 1/2 miles long if I am not mistaken.
Since it is a limited distance, cars usually do not reach their top speed. It is a good indicator of HP and aerodynamics in a car, especially when comparing similar ones.
It has become increasingly popular among certain circles in the UK I believe, and a lot of fun.

JBL, yes that’s me. Given the amount of Steve Irwin stick I got for wearing the fine hat, maybe I should have left it at home and worn a knotted handkerchief instead. For the A-merican brethren reading, some history on the hat .... it is a Guinness cowboy hat bought in Savannah, Georgia on St. Patrick's Day 2005, River St was wild that day

MOD kindly invited me as his guest to VMAX on Sunday. I managed to film a few clips which have been uploaded as follows - sorry for the dodgy camera work and slight use of expletives in describing how ballistic the banana now is...
All footage (About 20MB): http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...19648622453926
Compressed excerpts (Less than 1MB)
MOD vs 996TT X50: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...36573602020472
MOD filmed from my daily drive: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...98179777488586
Having experienced the banana on several occasions both before and after the RS work it still amazes me just how much the car has been improved - simply stunning

Ruxpin, welcome, and thanks for posting.
I have a question regarding that 996TT X50 video.. On the video it looks like MOD's car smoked him, yet the top speed was the same, was this not his best run or there is another explanation?
Great videos, a lot of fun!
Thanks

Jean,
Are you sure about your summs ? Aerodynamic drag increases with the square of speed but driving power is drag times speed , so the difference is proportional to speed cubed .
I make it that the DMS car had 10% less power than the RUF ?
Hope that helps.
All the best
Geoff

Jean, many thanks for the welcome.
Being a good friend of MOD I have read the forums with great interest for a while, although have not had a lot to contribute being an elise driver
The X50 in question is the "182 bluesatin - 996T X50 with aerokit" (Pistonheads results) which posted 182mph through the timing beams. I believe the 182 was posted on this very run with MOD.
I wasn't around for the full day so only have video of MOD's car post the splitter incident and limited to about 150mph. Was gutted i couldn't get any decent video of the boost gauge showing overboost, although i can confirm the levels posted and the aggression it gives the car - next time...
"a lot of fun!" - I think you hit the nail on the head with that comment - VMAX is a great day, not a particularly competitive atmosphere just similar minded people having fun in their cars - it's very special
Regards,
Rich

I see this was with the aerokit.. It did seem however that MOD's car was much faster! I am sure the fun factor is much important than the actual results.. The results are rather for people like us who could not attend, and to help us put to bed some question marks about performance and mods on cars Thanks again.
Geoff,
I just extrapolated some numbers and certainly not in a scientific way. Re. the formula of power, I have addressed this in more detail in the other post referring to drag impact Power Loss and drag
The 996TT and 996GT2 don't have the same drag, which is why I chose the 996TT X50 to compare.. But in any case your results are close to mine? 10% of estimated 570-580 HP is about 60HP..which leaves the DMS car at 510-520HP as mentioned by me?

Welcome, Rich
Thanks for sorting the videos, they are great.
Now, before any of you American's start asking me if I am Australian, German, or Scottish due to my accent like you do when I am in the US on holidays, I testify I have a Yorkshire accent.
Jean, ref the laser speed I think the GT2 rear wing and S scoops are just costing me loads of speed.
Kind Regards
Martyn.
The accent stuff is meant entirely in fun, BTW

MOD, I thought it was Spanish for a second
Geoff, it is a good check and balance. Thanks.
I believe the cars had plenty of HP, meaning real HP...most of them. I am not sure Bolt-on 700HP Porsches would have been much much faster..

Jean,
Just thought it would be interesting to see how , say , a Corvette Z06 would do on that run ?Plain , simple ,brute force !
Not Porsche relevant I know but you have to keep looking at whats going on out there .
All the best
Geoff

No offence mate but I would of found it a little difficult to resist having a stab too, wear it next year as I plan on making it a date in the diary, I served my apprenticeship in Skipton so I won't mistake you for a monkey hanger
