Question turbo vs turbo s?

What are the differences betwen the 96 turbo and the 97 turbo s?

Other than some styling differences I don't see a whole lot that would justify the price jump from 70k to 100k.

Thanks

Shane,

PLENTY of changes - and that takes NOTHING into consideration due to the rarity of the cars....

Bodywise - different bi plnae wing, Rear 1/4 ducts, Front spoiler lip, Ducting and smaller (and less powerfull) fog lights, Special finish on the wheels and Quad Exhaust tips. Also Yellow painted calipers!

Interior - Almost EVERYTHING covered in leather, plenty of CF including the steering wheel.

Engine etc - Aux oil cooler, different suspension settings (i think??) and more HP (again 24+ HP)

Again these are SO rare - that fact alons may be why the price is so high.... We have only 12 in this country and when they come up for sale ( RARE ) if the colour is right then they command a HEFTY premium over normal 993TT's.

Regards,
Simon

in short, the 'S' keeps value based on limited edition and also low milage. I think most people here would rather spend the difference in price on mods, especially if the car is driven. I dont think a 993tt-s represents good value IMHO.
That said, they are beautiful to look at.

Ok thanks guys that is pretty much what I suspected. They are both very gorgeous, the turbo s has some very nice styling changes, but I can't say they are (to me) worth 30k. The turbo S that Park Place has, well is is a very sweet example and they are not in the least bit willing to deal on the price.

I think being the last MY of the air-cooled turbo, and only 182 units shipped to the States distinguish the turbo S from the pack. It is a gorgeous car indeed. However, since higher miles will tank the value, one needs to think twice if one intends to put any miles on that car at all.

They are definitely not for everyone. The "mystique" of driving one is incredible to me. Every time I sit in it, I enjoy it. Most agree with you about the extra $, though. I don't see why. I won't sell a car this rare. It was worth it to me.

CP, I think it is 181 to the US in 97.

PS, they are asking more than 100k, right? They better be. One in LA sold for mid 120's recently. Prices seem to be going up on these cars. I don't have a lot of data, but I am trying to gather what I can.

Yep they are:

Price $110,950
Body Style Coupe
Mileage 20,239
Exterior Color Red
Interior Color Black
Engine 6 Cylinder Gasoline
Transmission Manual
Drive Type 2 wheel drive
Fuel Type Gasoline
Doors Two Door
Stock No. 5811
VIN WP0AC2996VS375797

One thing about me though, I buy cars to drive 'em, and Porsches just scream to be friggin driven! I don't buy shop ornaments, so for me to buy a rare car like this well just wouldn't make too much economical sense. Same reason I don't buy a GTS, because if you drive it like it was meant to be driven the value goes into the toilet.

Thanks for sending this. Interesting bit on that S. I believe that one had the 1/4 panel repainted. I'll have to go thru my notes to see for sure. I am almost positive.

Default 993 Turbo S Prices

Prices are going higher. Ray Joseph just sold one with less than 1k miles for about $180k. Others with under 5k miles are over $140k. Seinfeld's (first one built)has been sold and will likely be auctioned at BJ next January - it will likely bring north of $300k. Even cars with mid 20k miles are over $125k. On the other hand, the car is likely less expensive to own than a $100k 997 Carrera 4S which will lose a third of its value in the first year or two. Certainly cheaper than having bought a 996 Turbo S.
