I just visited Sloan's site. The RUF is a 1988 so it is not a 993 BTR. It is indeed a RUF VIN car though. Since I found mine, I have yet to see another 993 BTR for sale, and I have been looking (for kicks). In fact, I have only HEARD of one other 993 BTR, which is a French car brought over to S CAL by the owner on a temp. assignment.
I have to think that 993 BTRs are as rare as a hen's tooth.

I don't agree, I believe RUF vin number cars are sought after and RUF tuned cars are not as sought after. This car has been on eBay for some time, maybe there is a reason.

There is another 996 R Turbo (conversion) for sale for $125K. See it at, www.911Ruf.com. (NOT MY CAR MARC) The story on the blue 996 car was that the owner that listed it on Ebay did not have any proof/documentation that it was a Ruf car and really did not know very much about Porsche or Ruf. As it turns out the car was in fact driven from the Porsche factory (USA car but owner took euro delivery) to Ruf. The conversion was done to R Turbo specs by Ruf Germany (550 HP etc. integrated roll cage, etc.) and then shipped back to the USA. It was then maintained by the Ruf Auto Center in Dallas. I believe they had the car on consignment during the summer for $125K. I once bought a '96 993 Turbo R conversion car from a Porsche dealer here in the USA very cheap because they really did not know anything about Ruf. I later obtained documentation from Ruf and then ended up selling the car (still kicking myself) too cheap, eventhough I sold it for more than I paid. There was very strong demand for that particular converted car as I recall which makes me think that the demand is strong for both RUF VIN # cars as well as conversions. I'm sure though that the 993 based cars are in more demand than the 996s just as we usually see in non Ruf cars. The big difference to me is of course the Ruf VIN cars normally command quite a bit more $ than converted cars. I now know though that if I wanted to have a 993 or a 996 converted to Turbo R specs or R Turbo specs it would cost me more than $50K (the owner of my former Ruf 993 spent $55K a few years ago).

Its just a mental thing with the conversions. But its all the little things with the Ruf Vin car that make it so cool. Plus you know, Louis had his own hands in each car built in his place. I would take a non-Ruf early CTR but that's the only non-Ruf Vin conversion I'd think about.

Actually, conversions done at Pheffenhausen also has Alois's close attention. I read somewhere that their QA/inspection protocol applies to both RUF-built and conversions done in Germany. If they fly Joe out to do the conversion work somewhere else, then it is a different story.
BTW, my PO has paperwork that he spent $65k at RUF for the BTR conversion (plus a lot of additional goodies). That's more than the acquisition cost of his car.

Hmmmm. 993 Ruf conversions don't have carbon fiber doors/hood/engine lids. They don't have intercoolers at both flanks, nor that wicked looking rear deck wing. Some may have roll bars, but not integrated. I'd say a conversion is a conversion, but not a bonafide Ruf.....they just look different, almost animalistic with an aggressive poise, shaved rain gutters etc., I'm with the camp that says Ruf (non convesions) are much more sought after.

No doubt about it, Ruf VIN cars are far more desireable in the market than conversions. But I think ttAmerica is mixing the CTR with the Turbo R. Either can be a Ruf VIN or a conversion. The CTR & Turbo R are different beasts. The CTR has the intercoolers in the flanks and the wicked looking rear deck. The CTR is one of the few cars I'd trade my Turbo R for. Conversions can be identical with the Ruf factory VIN cars... only lacking that damn VIN!
