Default Dyno runs before/after Kevin's Stage 1

Well it was a "balmy" 37 degrees out... perfect for a dyno run in a forced fed car

Below, in order, are the comparison chart, the "before" details chart and the "after" details chart.

Peak improvements: +64.8WHP, + 32.9 WTRQ

Needless to say, I'm extremely pleased with this upgrade. Thanks Kevin!

Notes:

- 92 octane
- I will do another run after a track day on 100 octane... just need a track day!

Pete - was the "before" dead stock or did you have the CG mufflers on?

Pete,

Did you dyno at Fame? If so how was the experience there. I am planning on scheduling a dyno there as well.

Yep, at FAME. The operator is very knowledgable. Cost is $150.

Great new fuel ratios! Should keep you away from detonation problems.

For comparison stage 2 max torque is 480 ft-lb I think.

Default Congrats on meaningful results and measurements

Congrats, this is very meaningful to see an actual comparison on the same
car the same day!! These seem like very good results. What is the theoretical
peak torque at the flywheel? (what conversion factor does this dyno operator use
for 993tt all-wheel drive cars?) AWE website shows that you take wheel hp and
multiply by 1.17 ????
What was total cost of mods, including Cargraphic muffs, and labor to install everything?
(believe me, I spent plenty on mine )
Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Peet, you can't do a 60-130 mph run, can you?

If it makes things more easy for you, you can make it in 5th only, so no gear changes required.

If 130 is not possible perhaps a 3rd gear from 2k rpm up to 6k rmp run or something like that would be useful also.

I am sure the package will be even better on higher octane.

Its not the same day....looks like the base was about 2 months prior.

Pete very nice.. And yes, at 92 octane timing is pulled without a doubt.. Higher octane will yield better results..

At a 25% drivetrain loss this would be nearly 487hp (297/362=400/X ...X=487) at the flywheel. Is this correct!? .....if so, this is pretty AWESOME!

The first dyno run was done in Oct, so not on the same day; I think that is impossible to do the run and install it all and do another dyno run in the same day! But still, it is the same car, same dyno, same dyno config; about as good as it gets!

The numbers are wheel HP so the operator does not use any sort of conversion factor. The internet seems full of guesses at the drivetrain loss factor for our cars, anywhere from the 1.17 that you suggest up to 1.33 (which is a 25% loss factor).

While my car showed a 25% loss factor in October (408HP vs. 297WHP), I don't believe 25% is the correct loss factor. My car has 34K miles on it so who knows what the condition of the ignition system and MAF were in October. At Kevin's suggestion, I had the ignition system tuned up (new plugs, wires, distributor, 02 sensors, etc.) and a new MAF installed.

My guess is the loss factor is closer to 20% so the multiplier to convert wheel to crank power would be 1.25 so 362 * 1.25 = 453 crank HP; which, just happens to be what Kevin tells us to expect (actually, he will tell you that on 92 octane, you should expect less than 450HP; so, my car is basically in the expected ballpark).

With respect to cost, Kevin currently charges $6500 for the turbos, cats and ECU. I think the Cargraphic muffler is $1200. I can't give you a good estimate for the labor because I had a bunch of other things done like a clutch, flywheel, customer front mounted oil cooler, S ducts, and the tune up. I know the clutch and flywheel were something like $2000 including all "tune up" parts that go with a clutch replacement. All told, I spent $12K for this complete winter project

Oh, before I forget, we also did Kevin's DIY Header Cleanup. Basically, if Kevin suggestes something, I did it (including the bigger oil cooler since I track the car now and then in 100 degree weather!). So, I'd say the $12K figure is accurate if you include everything that Kevin suggests...

I'll do some 3rd gear 2k to 6k when the roads dry up; even with AWD these cars get squirelly on wet pavement!

I might even be able to get you a 60 to 130 run when I get to the track.

Mine got 'squirelly' at 90mph in 5th at less than full boost today - car skewed 2 feet to the right and nearly gave me a heart attack. I spent the next few seconds (felt like an age) fishtailing... no pedals, just steering... and caught it. Be careful out there.
