Andial 3.8 Update
Just a quick update, I'm short of time. Got my car back yesterday and broke it in slogging through LA traffic to get home. I'll finish the break in on the way to the track on Wed. Initial impressions:"Your grandmother could drive it off boost" That's a quote from Dieter Inzhofer who runs Andial and it's perfect. No change in street drivability vs stock. Clutch engagement, idle and low rpm operation are unaffected. Slight growl at idle in neutral from the non dual mass flywheel setup. Techart mufflers are perfect. A bit of bark when you want it without the drone at freeway speeds and use the factory tips if so desired. Here's the big surprise, anecdotal evidence indicates about a 3 mpg improvement in gas mileage! Twin plugs? Fresh engine? Magic? I'll get a more controlled test when I drive to the track. They detected worn rear half shaft CV joints while test driving the car and replaced them. Major change in handling during on/off and off/on power changes during turns. Also solved some mystery clunks from the rear. Final note, the injector block that was replaced is a plastic piece that fits between the intake and head and the injector screws into it. The mating surface with the head was warped. I'll give a more thorough review later this week after my track trip including on boost experience.

They said the redline remains as stock, limited by the hydraulic lifters. Max torque at 4500, max horsepower at 6300. If you shift at 6300 it shouldn't drop below 4500 in any gear, I'll try that out Thursday.

Don,
It must be sweeeeetttt. The Ruf arrived today. Drives great. I wonder if we now have matching suspensions? Mine has the Ruf setup: non-adjustable bilsteins but an adjustable rear sway bar. Is that the same as yours?

You have to tell us more about your new Ruf too. I thought pictures and driving impressions would be a must, especially when you have your "other" 993tt to compare - maybe a new thread? Wiessach in Vancouver is just a few blocks away and I will be considering the conversion myself in a little while.
thanx

Basal,
Rufus is still too new to me to make any valid observations. Definetly more HP and torque than (not quite stock) Waldo. Very smooth power delivery (not a sudden surge like the FVD K24 kit). Great "cam" idle rumble. Ruf suspension does not use adjustable Bilsteins (ala PSS-9 like on Waldo), but does have an adjustable rear bar. The handling is excellent... probably more a function of the bigger/better front tires than on Waldo (245x40x19 Rosso vs 225x40x18 S03).
This will be a more interesting observation after Waldo gets the Stage One turbos, but there will have to be a break-in period before I'll be able to compare. My gut says... they will be very close.
Bottom line... the Ruf kit is more expensive than bolt-ons, but is a tried and tested, well-respected conversion. In addition, the Ruf Turbo R has considerable resale value as opposed to a more affordable bolt-on solution. This is a very tough call. I will be happy with my choice once I do the Ruf Turb R body work.

Put them on today Dan, ran out of steam before I could get the fluid in and bleed them. I'll do that tomorrow and report on the total track experience when I get back from Thunder Hill this weekend.

Congrats. Great to hear that you have the car back. It seems like a comfortable (sound) street car with very serious potential for fast lap times. I am sure you will enjoy it immensely at the track. Please do post in detail upon your return. Enjoy it in safety.

Just got back from the track. Pretty disappointed, for some reason there is a mystery fuel shutoff intermittently at throttle tip in while running hard(i.e. shift at 6300, then dead). If I let off the throttle, then hit it again it pulls fine. It doesn't do this under any street conditions, so I'm not sure how Andial will trouble shoot it. I'm not looking forward to another trip to Santa Ana. I'm feeling kind of stupid spending big for a "proven package"!

Sorry to hear your problem. Nothing worse than doing the big mod and having a glitch. Sounds like the soft limiter, Dieter will get it right. Keep us advised.
