Default Another Dumb Wheel Question

OK, I picked up a refinished rear for my car. It's a hollow spoke OEM but came without a valve stem. Are the metal valve stems Porsche specific or can you get them at any tire store? I checked all the Porsche products web sites and no one lists them that I could find. Plenty of valve caps but no stems. ?? Thanks.

Are these enough?

Otherwise, check with your local Porsche dealer. They should have it as spare parts and shouldn't cost much at all.

Bill:

The OEM hollow spokes take a OEM valve stem for that wheel. I am pretty sure it is a dealer only part.

If you do not have a convenient local dealer, try Sunset Porsche, or IRA (RL Sponsor),etc.

Enjoy the wheels !

Ok, here's the official info on my valve stem question. It is indeed a Porcche specific part and also a Wheel specific part. These are the OEM wheels for a 96/97 turbo. The stem part # 993 361 073 00 at $9.50 per. If my picture works you can see the major difference in these and normal rubber stems.

Given how often these cars go through tires, do you replace stems every change? If not, how often?

Given the looks of mine I doubt they have been ever changed, so I figure I will change them all next tire change at the 10 year mark. Since they contain the two o rings I would think it should be on some sort of rotation, though I'm sure most people don't think of stems til they fail.

where is the best place to get my factory wheels straightened and refinished??
I thought I would do it this winter since a couple of my wheels are slightly bent
(I saw them on the tire balancer machine)

I tried to have mine straightened and it didn't work. Most experts(and Porsche) recommend against doing it.
