Question itching for wheels...... tire size question

I posted a while back looking for opinions on k18's vs. cargraphic wheels. I think i've made up my mind. I recently just bought some new 285's for the rear and my front 225's have another few thousand miles to go on them. Eventually I'd like to end up with 235's in the front and 295's in the rear. Can I run 235's up front with the 285's in the rear untill the rears wear out and I can replace them with the 295's? Does anyone have any experience with this set up or are the diameters too far off from each other affecting the cars AWD?

Sorry if this is a little confusing......... Basically I want to transfer my 285's over and purchase 235's for the front when I buy the wheels.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't have any problems with any of the combos you are thinking about. I have 295/225 but will move to 295/235 as well.

adsc4s,

Will 225s/295s (front & Rear) fit on the OEM Turbo Hollow spokes?

Air Kull TT,
I believe going to a 295 on the stock rear wheels is not a problem. You can also go to 235 in the front.

adsc4s,
As I understand it it 's most important with our cars that the rears are, if nothing else, slightly smaller in diameter than the front. So if you're running 225 and 295 then 235 front and 285 rear should not be a problem. Is this right?

Tony, I don't know how the 295 fits on a 10" wheel. I have a 11" wheel on my car.

Ethec, I don't really know about the rear being smaller than the front issue. I believe there is an acceptable percentage range as to the rolling diameter of acceptable wheel/tire combos and a 285/30 and 295/30 falls within the acceptable range. There are many who are running the 235/285 sizes which should help to reduce understeer a little.

FWIW, I have run the 295-30-18 PS2's now on 10's and 11's. Ideally, I would opt for 10.5's ideally if I wanted the 295's as my permanent rear tire soln. My previous wheel were Kinesis 8's and 10's, my current Fikse's are 8.5 and 11's.

If I could do my current wheels over, and could only choose 10's or 11's on the rear, I would choose 10"s... With all of the different width combos I have tried (225/265, 225/285, 235/295) I like less F/R width stagger than more...

Monster-man:

If tire height diffs were not an issue with the AWD VC, it would be fun to try 235/285...I have not tried that one due to this difference. Also, finding matching f/r tires in those sized in the tire brands/models that appeal is also a challenge. If width were the only issue and we could get the same diameters, all in a PS2 or???, I would very much like to try the 235/285 combo. I have considered the 235/275 idea but am still thinking about this one. Again, limited tire choices here too.

All in all, it would be fun to take a track day and have all these tire combos mouted up and do A vs. B back to back tests !!!

ah ha. so the 235/285 isn't a good idea. no worries there, i ordered my wheels. 8.5 and 11's and i'm just going to stretch the 225/285's for a while as i have >50% on the front and 90% on the rear, then move to 235/295. if i really hammer for a while coming out of the corners i should be able to wear the fronts and rears out at the same time

I run 235/315s on 996TT wheels (8"F and 11"R). The cars can take a REALLY big tire setup. On the track I use 9.25" Front and 12" Rears with 265/335 equivalents.

Bob,
hmmm....... i haven't owned the car very long, but eventually would like to some a DE's here or there. For the most part it's a street car and that's how i intend to enjoy it 99% of the time. is a 315 really necessary for the street? i'm looking to end up with the gt3 combo 235/295 in the end. i guess i could do the 235/315, but won't that increase understeer. of course sway bars can dial that back out...... or should i be looking for 245/315 combo in the end? so many questions!!!!! lastly will a 245 fit on a 8.5 wheel?

Tony,
will post!! i'm looking forward to meeting you on the next local drive.
