Default Drill holes in air filter cover? good or stupid?

Is there any reason at all to drill holes in the air filter cover (the black plastic piece that is on 1 side of the airfilter?
I know people do this for the NA cars to approximate motorsport sound, but does this help airflow on the TT? Help sound? Anything really bad about doing this?

911/Q45 is right on the money!! Do not drill any holes, this would void out all of the factory design elements like the snorkel on the airbox. Done to grab cool fresh air.. If someone wants to improve the intake tract do it from the aluminum plenum to the air inlet of the turbochargers.. Ruf uses universal radiator hose... If you really want to go nuts,, port and polish the rear aluminum plenum..

The entire assembly is called the air filter. Back half--element--front half.

Therefore, should i assume any shop that recommends drilling holes into the plastic airfilter backhalf is incompetent regarding turbo maintance?? Or is this a "topic where reasonable men can differ"??

Look, air enters the intercooler to cool down the charge air from being heated by the turbochargers, we do not want to increase the problem by having our cars ingest this warm air that just passed through the warm intercooler.. You are creating problems, if someone needs to have fresh air to the intake system, mount a GT1 roof scoop, or mount a GT2 tail on, that provides positive pressure for your intake system.. and the air is cool..

I wouldn't condemn the shop because of this recommendation since many of the Euro tuners have done this on cars over about 490hp, more airflow is required and the stock box can be seen "sucking in" on the dyno - the holes will prevent this, but are undesirable for the reasons mentioned and there are nowdays other solutions.
