OBD upgrade
Hello. I need a complete installation OBD kit for my 993tt conversion. Wires, connectors, sensors, etc. I heard someone said the cost was around $200, but LAPorsche said $600!!!! Is that a good deal or I better install a boost gauge alone. I only want to read the boost. Any help on where to find the parts or best options really appresiated.

If the only thing you're after is the boost gauge, then you may want to consider that the factory boost gauge is quite inaccurate and only reads to .8 bar. There are a number of aftermarket mechanical boost gauges that will work a lot better.

Thank´s for the info Steve. Where is the best part of the car to installed and where to find the best one? I prefer one that looks like factory part. Any suggestion?

FVD and 9XAuto have a VDO/IHS mechanical boost gauge that replaces the factory clock. IMHO it looks amazing. Jack Ensuate has it in his 993 superchaed car. Check out his website for pictures.
good luck

Here's a picture of my boost gauge in the drivers vent. I believe this kit comes from Andial, but not positive. I don't yet (darn it) have it plumbed up.

Search the 993 and 993 Turbo forums. There's thread on analog or mechanical boost gauges and there's information on doing a retrofit OBC (not OBD) at the DIY site.
Cheers,

Nice location for the gauge Steve, but I´m not ready to loose my A/C vent. I probably installed on the left upper side of the dash if I can´t find another place. On the other hand, the best place for me could be whre the clock goes but, what to do with all the warning lights?

Thanks, Paul. I found the animated images at http://heyhowdeyhey.com/mine/
We watched Nemo in Spanish on DVD when it was in the cinemas locally (sent as a birthday gift for my three year-old) and I had to laugh along with my limited familiarity with Spanish but everyone else was in tears and stitches. I finally picked it up as a DVD at CostCo to kill some time over the Christmas week and (being an Aussie) found the "Mine!" joke just too funny. My wife and I now conduct whole conversations and plan our day just by repeating "Mine!" in that broken voice. I grew up next to the sea in Australia and seagulls were an every day source of entertainment. If you've ever baited a hook on a breakwater or devoured a hamburger at the beach surrounded by seagulls waiting for anything to drop, the cacophonous "Mine!" from a hundred beaks brings back memories of a simpler life.
