Default Leather Interior

Is it unusual to have a LEATHER INTERIOR ?

I mean even the roof is leather. I mean from the front edge at windshield to rear edge at windshield. Everything except the backs of the seats and they are painted black like the exterior...

The Germans are pretty serious leather fetishists! The interior had a lot of leather to start with and almost every surface could be covered with leather as options, even the A/C vents!

You just NEVER want to order any piece of the interior with that leather attached to it from the dealer. I ordered the 6 CD holder for the console(without asking price. Can you say DOHHHHH) with a tiny bit of leather around it. The thing listed for $475!!!! I did return it, carefully.. Take good care of that leather or trying to replace it will cost more than you paid for the car.....

I just went to look again. The AC vents are not leather. But jeeze, every little piece of trim is covered in leather. What got me looking was a grease smear on the sunroof liner. It surprised me when it wiped right off. Then I noticed the big zipper across the roof liner in the rear...

Oh, well. Guess I better stock up on conditioner.

I was conditioning last nite. Is all that leather?
the rear deck? the door panels? the trim right below the
windows? the panel behind the rear seats?
I conditioned it all but there is alot of it.

The rear deck is. I didn't realize this and neglected to condition, so it shrunk and pulled off the backing. I replaced it with vinyl that had identical grain and don't have to smear up the back window with conditioner.

I just finished browsing the Zaino Bros site. I have heard a ton of great things about Zaino as a polish. In fact, I will be placing my order for it soon. I have no affiliation with them, but checking between the 996TT and M3 lists have really encouraged to give them a try. In checking their site, they also mention that they have a leather oil that gives amazing results. I'll have to research that one some more before giving that a shot on my leather.

I have been using Griots leather cleaner on my previous 993 and my current car. Has kept the leather feeling like new.

Guys,

I have tried both the Lexol - cleaner and conditioner and Griots conditioner.
I would highly recommend the Griots leather conditioner / rejuvenator, it is a bit spendy, but well worth the money spent.
I applied it with a blue Griots sponge, left it to soak in for a day and now my leather not only looks great but has really softened up.

I think that the Griot's Rejuvenator is the same as the Leatherique Rejuvenator Oil which was recommended in several places. Here is a link to the web site. They also make a variety of products including dye and crack filler. http://www.leatherique.com/prod01.htm

I have used it applying it using the spray bottle method and it seems to work very well.
