I've toyed with the idea of selling the 993 for a 997 TT. The new turbos are so freekin' fast- I'd get into trouble for sure, so I end up back in the 993 and I love it. It's not FAST fast- but it's fast enough and the "feel" of driving in it awesome.

I hear ya Will my sentiments exactly! I would end up in jail. Drove a 997 TT recently... damn is it quick! This one was chipped as well with full exhaust and upgraded KKK turbos but lacked the driving experience my 993 provides.

Haven’t seen one offered in this condition for a while. Should be fetched rather quickly considering car’s condition and seller.

I am really starting to grasp the logic of this lately.
I got exposed to the concept of momentum cars on track with a spec Miata. There’s something really exciting about timing passes or late braking someone that a big power car could never duplicate....
Lately I’ve been making runs to the Mendocino Coast in my Mazda6. It’s on one of the best roads imaginable (think sears points with beautiful scenery). I get held up by slower traffic all the time because of the twisties. I still manage to get by pretty much anything with my lowly 180hp. Takes planning and good race craft to make it happen. I imagine a 250hp 993 would be just as exciting.

I love that entire region as driving there is sublime! My 993 is bone stock with good suspension and it is a genuine joy to drive anywhere. But my SC is a whopping 180HP (I guess, right?), but at 2550 lbs with a good suspension, it is non-stop grins when the road gets twisty. Yeah, the "feel" of a car is integral to enjoying it. No wonder why so many love their spec Miatas as those things are practically the very definition of tactile road cars!
Ooops, this post was entirely off topic wasn't it?

My 993 turbo conversion is pushing 600hp. It’s kinda too much! I go out for drives and can’t ever really use the power. When I can it’s really to much for the chassis. Even with all the suspension goodies it’s a handful! Very exciting but not very useful.

It was hard to eventually concede to the fact that overall, the car was more fun stock. I needed so much open road to actually -use- the power it was usually aggravating to drive as I had to exercise so much restraint with the throttle.
I ended up selling that car and buying a much slower F355. 993 is kind of the same thing. It's fun to be able to wring out a car (power wise) and concentrate on everything else rather than 99% of your brain power going towards pedalling the accelerator so you don't die.
That's what I've come to think at least. Was a bit different when I had the motivation to meet up with a group of cars at 3am with a couple of spotters up ahead with radios

i think most 993 guys are of that mindset. i stepped away from wanting high hp cars a number of years ago, as you just can't use it under most conditions. enjoying a slow car at 90-100% is far more engaging than driving a rocket at 50-60% - for me anyway. being able to hammer the throttle for more than 4 seconds, shift my own gears, listen to the sound of the exhaust - that's what i like.

I think you already said almost all the reasons why 993 are so much desirable, despite or thanks to the not so many ponies...but...I think that between the many remaining reasons, there is one in particular that counts the most: mechanically talking, especially chassis related, the last 20 years of 911 have seen only refined something that was already existing.
The quality of the European vehicles produced until half of the 90ies, is top not just for that period, but overall.
Ferrari produced 5 valves engines, Honda the Vtec, BMW the double vanos, I mean, the knowledge didn't change very much, and probably this is the reason why it is possible, adding a good modern engine control unit and few more refined details, to gain on the naturally aspirated aircooled engines so many hp like for example 9meister and rothsport are able to do.
the starting base, mechanically talking, was evidently ready for that.
The LSA rear axle of the 993, is the same architecture still used on the 992.
I am quite sure that adding hp and upgrading the chassis, with modern tyres, the 993s are capable of laps lower than 7 minutes 30 seconds on the ring, the problem is finding someone able to use the performance available at such an high level, the wheel base is much shorter, the vehicle asks for a very skilled driver, I don't think there are so many capable of that, but this is because the human limits, not the car.
and reasonably most of the seconds, compared to the 992 gt3, are missed on the straight line, not in the turns.
And so, if the 993 doesn't turn so very much slower than a 992 gt3, but same time provides such an engaging drive experience, at least a 993 in the garage...then maybe also a 992 gt3, but it is not very necessary...even if the 992 gt3 would be the perfect feast commuter, for the daily drive to the office.
And of course the 992 is faster and is also more comfortable and way more versatile, but it also takes many details of the driving pleasure for itself.
If the chrono is so much important, then maybe I would go directly for a CUP car

If that doesn’t add up, it is was apparently the last air cooled 911 made by Porsche (until project gold at least) and ordered by Jerry Seinfeld with 41k in special wishes options.

In my quick reading of the text, they were too embarrassed to even mention the work sportomatic...
Agreed, why did they allow the last one to be an auto car?
BTW- JS is PNA's largest/biggest customer...

Project gold 993 Turbo S manual transmission is officially the last one. Albeit 20 years later. See link: https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/prod...ung-16326.html
This said Mr. Seinfeld can get pretty much whatever he wants from Porsche.
