BAT
And Gents, can we please stop using BAT as a market marker? We used to keep track of a P2P dot chart on recent sales in here. That is more accurate than whatever ego last minute closing bid war yields on BAT. I’ve seen junk cars sell in there for top money and pristine well kept examples go RNM or not bid to same amount which makes no sense. Not only on 993s but also on 964s.
Just this week a Red/Black C4 sells for more than a White/Blue C2 both with equal mileage. That makes no sense at all. But that is BAT for you.
Good luck!

Much as I love my dear friend JAB12, I am going to disagree on the BaT comments. True, BaT is not THE market, but it certainly represents a reasonable portion of market data points. This, we cannot deny. Whether egos are involved or not, which is likely the case under most circumstances anyway, BaT transactions still represent data for the market. The fact is, as you know as well as anyone, there are many factors that go into evaluating the value of these cars. What you might value, the next buyer might not, and vice versa. That's why Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors and Porsche makes near infinite variations of cars (more so today than in the 993 era, but still).

Anyone do a ppi on this?

I looked at it and drove it but didn't go any further. They had no maintenance records when I saw it.

Data on private sales is inconsistent and incomplete since it is up to the buyer or seller to disclose... how can we trust the random reporting.
there are ego and odd results from both auctions and private sells. So many variables involved since 993 cars are not commodities.
it’s also hard to pinpoint a market sometimes. Take your 993s for example, how many other 993s have sold with the same history, mileage, color scheme, etc in the past 1-2 years... not many...
but to your point, BAT should only be a reference
point if you are looking at a private sale.

I'd like to chime in on the BAT numbers.
You have to use this numbers since they are real transactions. The problem with those transactions is they are done by more emotion than education, but transactions nonetheless. This was the same argument when EBAY first started. People called it SLEAZEBAY because many of the cars were trash.
Of course these cars aren't Barrett Jackson quality, but I see Barrett Jackson numbers referenced often and personally believe those are skewed with emotion as well.
The true number is going to be what someone pays on any given day on every platform, i.e. auctions, dealerships, personal sales. That transaction price could be lower if a buyer has the time to do drive, examine and/or do a PPI.
Think of it this way, if you had a great car with great history, where would you sell it, as opposed to a a marginal or a car with a spotted past??.
In my own personal case, in the past I have bought Porsches sight unseen. Some of these were well over $100K. I bought the seller as much as I bought the car. Today, I would demand a professional PPI or I would have to actually see the car. The Porsche world has grown and my trust has waned.
In every case, caveat emptor!!
