First HPDE with my 993 -- Laguna Seca
This past Thursday I had my first DE with the 993, and it was my first time at Laguna Seca too! Only my second track day ever, the last one being in a 128i at Thunderhill.
The car did great. I recently completed a big suspension refresh: PSS10s, M030 sway bars, new drop links, shock/strut mounts, control arm bushings, and solid tie rods. I also ran new Sebro rotors with Stoptech sport pads and ECS stainless lines. It has RS motor mounts and a freshly rebuilt steering rack as well. Cup IIs with OE-sized Michelin Pilot Sport 2s. RS alignment, RS +10 height. It's been a busy six months...
Everything came together pretty nicely. The car was predictable and controlled. I never felt like I was fighting it, and only had a couple instances of light understeer and one nice slide to catch in the hairpin by going in a bit too hot.
I got six 20-minute sessions, with a coach, and learned the track pretty well. So cool to do the corkscrew after years of playing it in games. Turn 9 was my favorite -- the way you carry speed through but drift down to catch the apex is so fun. I got signed off for solo and B-group at the end of my day.
To those on the fence about doing a track day: do it!
There's a video below, not terribly exciting or well done but some nice clean laps and action with a 991. He was my partner car and the cars were surprisingly even matched, at least with novice drivers. Our instructor said mine handled better. He also couldn't pull away in the straight (I lift in the video.)
Keep an eye out for the Miami Blue 991.2 Turbo S and the F430 going in too hot!

Looking good! It's great to see 993 owners actually driving their cars - especially on the track. Can't wait to get my 993 on the track later this season too. Laguna's a bit of a haul for me though
You should heed my brother's advice and head up to Thunderhill on Friday.

The elevation and directional changes through the corkscrew look great fun. Thanks for sharing.
The closest I will have come to that are Paddock Hill Bend at Brands Hatch and Craner Curves at Donnington Park, but neither are as crazy as the corkscrew.

PS2s in OE sizes. Would really like wider a wheel and tire up front some day when I've got the budget for it.
Guys, my wife would kill me if I went to another track day this week, but I sincerely appreciate you egging me on.
It's a logistical challenge for us with two kids and both working full time silicon valley jobs. I spent 35+ hours in the garage over the last three weeks prepping for this track day and I've gotta pay attention to the family for a while.
This event was run by HOD but hosted by Droids 'n Friends, which is who I usually run with. They've got Thunderhill days coming up in April and May, so I'll probably shoot for one of those. The next thing I really want to do is a skidpad.
Glad you're enjoying the video and photos! The one from behind the car on entry to 8a is my favorite.

Great to see. Signed off Solo on your second track day ever. Safe to say you're a natural. Congrats and what are your next mods and when is your next event. It's a slippery yet fun slope
