Mobil 1 for RS
Must buy Mobil 1 for top up. Is there only 1 type/spec of Mobil 1?
UK boys - do Halfords sell it?
Thanks in advance!

you need the Motorsport (15W-50) as far as I know. Yes, Hlafords do sell it (surprisingly), it is £34.99 for 4 litres. I have yet to find another supplier on the 'high street'.

Just to confuse things I was in a Porsche independent workshop a few weeks ago and they were using Mobil 1 "S" for their oil changes, seems to be 0W40 but with a further additive to make it even more slippy.

Piers,
Use 15 w50.
I believe the only reason Porsche recommends (now, used to recommend 15 w50) 0 w40 993s is that in colder climates, hydraulic lifters might have problems.
Since you don't have them, you can't have the problem either.
Probably 0 w40 would be good to use during winter there, but for hotter months (you do have those too? ) I'd definitely use 15 w50. That's what my car gets every time.
Last weekend when I changed my oils (after three track days & about 3000 miles), I noticed that there was practically no metal shavings in drain plug, just so little that you could see something but it was so clean that I could've put it back w/out cleaning.
FYI, Some here have reported awful looking oil (inspected after oil change0 when they used 0 w40. I'm sure you can find that post if you search.

Piers, if you want the best you should get the Castrol Formula RS IMHO. It is 10-60W. I can I think give you the phone number to a place that sells it for around £32 per 4 litre 'can'...whether it's worth doing this or you need it can only be your decision.

My OPC used Esso Ultron (a semi synth). When I questioned them about it they said that in their experience. using thinner fully synth like Mobil 1 tends to lead to increased leakages because they reckon the engine flexes more from temperature changes due to its air cooled nature. I top up using
the gallons of Mobil 1 I have stocked up (its circa £22 for 4 litres from Costco) which they said was fine.
