Thumbs up

Hi Sean,

You may have degrees from Duke and Stanford, but your wife is a genius! Definately a keeper! Best wishes with your car.

Regards,

Jim

Hi Sean,

Hey I only have a EE degree and I take the thing apart. Get the manuals and go for it. Somethings are more difficult that need support (ie you may need a Bosch Hammer) but the vast majority of the items are a piece of cake. Of course having bones made of rubber would help in some of the service procedures...

I think one of the main obstacles people face when self servicing a 993 is being scared...just go for it! Worse what could happen is you will have to sheepishly tow the car to your mechanic..

105k and counting Randall. I am catching up. But I am afraid I might retire her pretty soon from the daily driver ranks as I expect get a suburban (heresy I know) so I can drag her to and from the track (just got my evo Sparco seats today) .

Tom,

Your list is great and very . I thank my lucky starts that when I put my key in the door it unlocks and then when I put it in the ignition it starts.

Way to go Sean - you made the right decesion.

E.J. ... do you have the highest mileage 993 on this list? Perhaps there's someone I haven't thought of, or a "lurker" that has more?

Good choice, Sean! Here's hoping--once past your current spate of maintenance--you'll have a relaxing period of smooth sailing.

A relevant post just showed up on the Tracquest board, thought I’d share it. I think the second part applies here.

Racing is God's way of letting you know you've got too much money, and he wants it back. But as a friend said, "I spent most of my money on cars and women, the rest I wasted."

Sean,
Congrats!

Tom,
Thanks for defending the '95. My late (May build) '95 has some '96 features. I have the drive block system and a remote, but no switchblade. What is the story on the exploding rear window? Does this have anything to do with the 3rd brake light position? I'm especially curious about this since my late '95 has the '96-on style light at the top of the window.

Also, what's the story with the hanging clutch -- my car just hinted at doing that today?

Sean, glad you are keeping it. When I took delivery of my '98 S, I figured I would get my money's worth out of the 2 year warranty by driving it hard and far, to get something to break in the first 2 years. Nothing broke. At 71K I am trying desperately to catch up with E.J. and a few others.

Only your seal is an unusual item. The rest is maintenance. Your maintenance money will be rewarded with more enjoyment to come. And the wife, what a gem. Like a 993 of any vintage.

Randall,

I think Edward has around 120k. Other than that, I might be the highest.

to a lot more too.

You've made the right choice, Sean ... keep the 993 (and keep your significant other, too, come to think of it). I just traded my new 2001 Boxster in for a 95 Carrera 4, and it's so nice to be back in a 911.
