Busy day. Replaced the spark plug wire-set, installed a set of B&B mufflers, and almost completed the replacement of the cylinder head temperature sensor. I have to change out the plug on the harness side to the newer style, and need the pin pushers from work.

Default 2-speeds !

The resistor on the left obviously saw better days. New one fitted and the AC condenser fan got back its two speed spec

How hard was it to remove your bumper? I bought this part last year but I’ve been too lazy to attack this repair. My fan surges at times and I think it’s the resistor.

You don't have to remove the bumper. It can be done from the wheel well. Remove the liner and it's right there.

I don't think a surging fan is a sign of a bad resistor. Sounds more like a bad contact. When the resistor fails, it defaults to high speed only. This can be verified with a small shorting wire in the front fuse box.

Thank you!

Full disclosure: my husband installed the PadKeeper without my involvement (other than me ordering it). I had hoped to assist but he decided to forge ahead without me, and apparently there was some challenge with one particular fastener but otherwise it went smoothly and he had covered the engine with a moving blanket to catch any “errors”. I agree it looks great and is a worthwhile improvement.

No pics from today but I took a nice long ride. Yesterday took it to P.T. followed by grocery shopping. It’s so different from anything we’ve ever owned/driven. Sheer FUN!

Thank you. Is it behind passenger side wheel well? Since I already have the resistor I might as well use it since the car is 25 years old. When I say surge, it will be on low speed then suddenly go to high speed for a few seconds. Could even be a loose connection at the resistor but I should check.

I removed the bumper as I am planning to do the Oil cooler resistor as well. It is very straight forward. I did not bother to lift the car, so that made it even easier. I unbolted the cooler, then I had access to the resistor. I saw some threads where some members here managed to keep everything in place, but having tried I went this way.

This must be one of the best quick win projects for the price. It totally transformed my engine compartment as my original insulation was rather ugly. Looks great.

I think I previously saw your comments on the subject. I had a quick look, and tried several tools to access the screw. Could not manage to get the angle right, so decided to do it with the bumper off.

Was this car originally black or did some early 993's not come with engine bays that were color matched to the exterior?

Done wet sand and polish. Just waiting for a few new trim pieces and new front glass. I haven't seen it yet in person but they're telling me it's flawless.
