What do you mean, "ghost photo"? Isn't that what everyone sees when they look at the back of their 993? I see it all the time.
The photographer took two photos. One with the lid closed and one open. If you look closely the engine lid is closed but made somewhat transparent so it gives the appearance you are looking through the deck lid. RC
About a 4 hour drive for me to Amelia Island. Took the ferry from Mayport and came up from the south. Turned out to be a very smart route to avoid insane traffic. We met some friendly folks on the ferry and traded 993 stories on the brief ride.
I was overwhelmed by the number and variety of Porsche’s at WERKS. And the friendly folks. I’ll be coming back next year.
WERKS, if you are reading this, we needed more coffee and donuts. It was too early for gin. Also there should be an award for the car driven from the furthest away. I think there were cars from Chicago. Just damn!
One great spinoff benefit was my wife has fallen in love with 356’s. I think there is one in my future.
The other day I finished up a big tune up!!!!! Ignition wires, plugs, caps, rotors, fuel filter, fuel injectors tested, cleaned, calibrated.... Then took this supercharged baby for a drive. All is running very well and strong!!!! It was a bit of work, tight access, bunch of cuss words along the way, but the end result was worth it!!!!!!
Replaced the tilt switch on my drivers seat to get the seat back to 100% working. I know I could have cleaned the old switch but I had already bought a set for a good price and the passenger seat needs to have the forward/back replaced as well. Next week! If anybody is looking for a cheap set of switches in good condition that they want to refurbish...pm me! I opened up one of the switches and I was glad I had the replacement as I have NO IDEA what I'm supposed to be looking for.

I used a Time-Sert kit to repair damaded threads on the chain housing (middle right side of left housing). A little tricky because of location but was able to get it right the first try. I also replaced the engine carrier with the Rennline reinforced version.
I see these updates and think I should try this repair after all I've replaced my headlights and fog light lenses...this should be easy. Don't worry, I'll move up to changing the cabin filters as my next project.
Wish had this skill set to to do these engine out repairs...it must be so rewarding.
Not today but finished up a multi-week project last week...
1) SAI cleanout and changed a completely rusted check valve. Taking it out was a pain - vice grip no success. Kroil penetrant and the crow foot from pelican and extensions to allow a breaker bar to extend over the intake manifold worked. Man, the sound of that valve finally releasing scared me that I had broken something.
All that rust debris came from the top side of the valve.
Exhaust side valves looked good compared to what others have posted with leaking valve guides.
The car had a top end done approx 25k miles and 15 years ago, supposedly with the improved exhaust valve guides. There wasn’t much carbon blockage in the SAI passages as the brake cable method of rotorootering was easy by hand just twisting back and forth using the cable housing to provide support to the wire. Perhaps just the check valve change would have sufficed.
2) ALL 12 plugs and rotors/caps. Very accomplished feeling for a novice DIYer. 25k miles on these. Who knows maybe they could have gone longer but while I was there...
In the process,I stripped a couple cheesehead Allen bolts holding the passenger side engine tin but as others have mentioned the Irwin bolt extractors worked well to bite on outside of the bolt and remove. Used Copper anti seize on reinstall.
Also based on another Rennlist recommendation, I found the magnetic swivel spark plug socket (Gearwrench 80546)
Yesterday I put on my m030 swaybars and the steering rack brace. It my be my imagination but it definitely feels tighter! I’ll get it aligned this week. Today I gave it a,wash. It was nice to be outside and away from the constant virus news on tv.
I also replaced the engine carrier with the Rennline reinforced version.

I didn't weigh it but the Rennline piece feels slightly heavier than stock. They advertise it as lighter than the reinforced stock carrier.
