Default New and improved Kuehl evaporator

Although a year old, here's some news for those seeking to replace their 993 or 964 evaporators...

Planning to put one of these in before the summer heat comes. So much better than factory solution in performance and doesn't have the dissimilar metals leading to corrosion and failure problem of the factory unit.

Wonder if anyone has performed a compare between Kuelh and Behr. Based on what I'm seeing, the price and accessories is the immediate difference, but I wonder if there is a difference in performance and reliability.

I had the previous Griffiths evaporator installed a few years ago, still relatively new, but I have not had any problems, and am pleased with the performance. There have been occasions when i had to turn the temp up as it got too cold.

Satisfied customer.

Is your existing one leaking? Replacing it involves disturbing a lot of stuff in the firewall best left alone. The incremental efficiency of the new design may not be relevant as the original one is fully capable of producing the maximum temperature drop short of forming ice on the coils.

Right between the two cabin filters, directly under the wipers.

Gas Tank has to come out to R&R the evaporator. Here are pics from when my evaporator was replaced:

replacing the evaporator is not difficult at all, just time consuming. It's one of those jobs that seems like there are a lot of steps, but once you're into it, it is no big deal.

Also there are plenty of pictures here in various threads (mine will help also) detailing the process and some of the quirks.

Yep, my evap is leaking badly. With a dark car, midnight blue, and summer temps over 100 in my corner of So Cal, just can't drive it without the AC blowing as cold as possible. Lots of disassembly and reassembly but not the most difficult job as stated earlier.
