Almost there.
Rear bumper and lights fitted, interior refitted, new door seals fitted (photo shows Mark masking the aperture to apply the glue in the right place only) then a quick clean of the outside to check over.
All that is left is to spray wax the entire underside before refitting the arch liners and under trays.

I'll update the work that it took to restore later, experience telling me that the final bill will be over £20k total spend including all parts, paint & materials, labour and VAT. The car is up for sale, asking price is strong at £79,995 however given that every 993C2S or C4S that we have seen this year needed a restoration work of this level, I think it offers excellent value for money with the bonus of the complete peace of mind that the work has been done correctly. What do you say guys?

Love it, going through the same with my cab. It's fun to see them come back to aesthetic beauty.

This job would push $50K over here from anyone even remotely calling himself a "911" expert.

You're right on the nail Ken. After just checking through the final costs, if we include the parts that the customer supplied himself we are looking at the thick end of £30-32k, hence the $50k you mention.

Some lucky guy (or girl) is definitely going to win big time when they buy this C2S, methinks.

Just getting caught up on this thread. Colin, back in post #74 you mention the bumpers were stripped down to bare plastic. I'm curious what method you use for this (soda blast, chemical)?

Thanks.

Then I'll say $60-70K over here, especially in CA.

Really though, if you spend the money to restore/refurbish, what's it really cost you on the back end? 3-5 years out certainly less than the depreciation you'll eat on some new Cayman or M4.

No, it's not £80k for a tiptronic; it's £80k for a fully restored, photographically documented, guaranteed rust free, one layer, perfect paint tiptronic. There is a difference which I guess only the future owner will completely appreciate.

Great question. We've tried dry ice, soda, sand & grit blasting and we've tried chemical stripping. As a result we only remove paint the hard way by using a DA or mini-DA sander (Dual Action) and follow it up by hand in the tricky parts. To answer the next question, yes, in the worst cases, it often proves more economical buy a new bumper and sell off the old one on eBay when you account for the labour cost to remove layers and layers of old paint.

Bumping this thread back up as I have a question on a part that Colin restored on this C2S.

I've just noticed that I have slight left to right movement to my driver side front jack poimt. I suspect one of the welds must have broken. The side to side movement is approximately 2mm. I'm re-attaching 2 pics from page 5 of this thread. Can someone comment on where the exact weld spots are located? Also, is the welding external or involves some welding from inside the cabin as well? Thanks for any feedback, RL'ers!

Looks like a fender off repair...my front pass lifting block is completely messed up. Just another no cost bonus that the "Porsche specialty shop" near me provided when they did the headlight washer delete and other items for me.

The owner was kind enough to point out all the previous paint work my car had...poor quality to his highly trained and experienced eye...then he proceeded to add more poor quality work...that even my untrained eye could recognize. Yet amazingly enough, people send this guy 356's from all over the country.

Pretty sure I just wasn't worthy enough for him to personally lay his hands on my car, the much older gentleman in his employ was the one responsible for all the bad bits. Oh well.
