Default Thoughts on new 911 R....

I haven't seen discussion here in 993, so I figured I would put this out there for discussion. I see 1 discussion on another board, but seeing that the 911 R will be manual and a naturally aspirated engine with around 500 horsepower--it should have some discussion here?

Seems to fill a nice hole in their product line...

I guess it's kinda cool, but the 991 series doesn't really do it for me.

I'd expect $200K or more for this car, knowing VW, er, Porsche pricing these days...

Apparently its a very limited production under 1000, and they're all spoken for already. My guess is you'll be seeing them for sale for 100K over MRSP when they come out.

Too bad it's a limited edition.

Some say that it will be a manual 991 GT3 RS but i agree with other guesses such as a hardcore GTS.

We will have to wait to see it.

I think it sounds promising... 2017 will represent 50 years since the original 911R & I've heard some very interesting comments regarding an extensive use of carbon or other lightweight materials (ie the Mg roof panel on the current RS / carbon door panels etc) throughout the car. This should be far from a hardcore GTS & more in tune with the original.

The problem is that they will be offered first through the 918 VIP program - so most will be taken by collectors, leaving very few for the 'open' market. I'd guess that less than half of all dealers will even see an allocation.

No enthusiast will get one - as said above, just the very rich folks - so the car becomes unattainable. That also drives up value of the car, so this will be just another model which I would be lucky just to see, nevermind own.

I read somewhere of a 600 car run.

Cheers,

Mike

I love the idea...I've always wanted to get my hands on a 997 GT3 and I'll rip the wing off.

I couldn't care less. Another marketing ploy.

Personally, I'm waiting on the Magnus Walker Edition to go with the Magnus Walker MOMO steering wheel and Magnus Walker "Urban Outlaw" Hot Wheels 356.

How can something not even announced yet already be sold out?

You get asked if you want to buy one, not the other way around.

It will be too hard to get and too expensive.

Would make for a fun car, but in 10 years I think i rather have a manual 997GT3 in the garage over a manual 991GT3. They are getting a little big?

the 918 preferred program is just ruining it for the enthusiast who aren't in it to collect only. Porsche may have needed it to entice a few more 918 sales, but allowing preferred access to limited edition cars is just driving up prices on the transaction prices and may not necessarily benefit Porsches financially. Porsche may sell everyone of the cars and ensure a ready buyer, but sometimes you create new customers by letting them access these cars. I just bought a GT4, never owned a Porsche before. I'm definitely going to a consider a Macan or hybrid for my daily in the future now.

A smart buyer of a 918 would realized that buying and selling these limited cars over 10 years access to the program can make back 1/2 of the purchase price of the 918. Along with enjoying 10 years of limited edition cars first. As if the 918 wasn't enough.
